If your using an AMD GPU and your PC shuts off in this game then this is how I fixed it...
This is a follow up post to my previous post about how I prevented the game from shutting down my PC. Before the solution was using the AMD Control Panel and lowering the Max Frequency my GPU could run at, this worked but caused issues in other games. I recently installed MSI Afterburner and immediately was able to fix this issue by locking my clocks to max 2790Mhz. This is not only easier and more effective, but has also produced better results for me. The issue is that in these Sony PC Ports if you have an AMD GPU your graphics driver will overclock your GPU to above what it can run at causing your PC to shut down as a safety measure. AMD, you need to fix this crap. Also Linux is free of this issue entirely if anyone is looking to get away from Windows. Oh and some additional info is that I have the latest amd graphics driver installed and the driver only, I am using msi afterburner instead of the amd software, secondly in Linux specifically distros running wayland and up to date Kernels my fps in this game is not only higher but all of the slowdown and other issues cease to exist.

Yea I have heard of this happening on Nvidia Gpus as well, as far as a solution for Nvidia cards perhaps you could try lessening the max frequency of your card as well, otherwise capping the framerate could lend a hand to figuring out the culprit.

Thanks, i'll see if the problem returns over time for this game and VRChat. By default, the AMD driver set the Core to 2800 MHz instead of the manufacturer's maximum Boost of 2394 MHz on the RX 7900 XT.
I hope your solution will solve my problem because it's not new and it's been happening for years!

No problem my Friend, I certainly hope that it helps you and I hope one day AMD fixes this terrible issue because it is unacceptable and I do not see enough people talking about it... Let me know how it goes and just remember if it happens again try lowering it just a little bit further because that has worked for some people as well.

Hi, I’m having an issue where the game crashes even when I set it to Low graphics settings.
It shows this error message:

"The game closed unexpectedly because it demanded more video memory than your system could provide. This could be due to your Windows paging file size not being sufficient to handle the video memory used by your graphics card. Try lowering the quality of graphical options, reducing the resolution, increasing the paging file size on your Windows installation, restarting your computer, or closing unnecessary background programs before launching the game again."

I don’t understand why this is happening — I have an RTX 3070 Ti 8GB and a Ryzen 7 5700G. This only happens with this game, not with any other titles I play.

Anyone else having the same issue or found a solution? :steamsad::steamsad::steamsad:

Yea that is strange for sure, you could open Advanced System Settings and set a manual system page file? You could also install Linux and try to run the game that way, my computers also has an 8gb gpu and I have never seen that issue. I am sorry to hear your having this problem, I know the game can be absolutely infuriating with how poorly optimized it seems to be unfortunately. Let me know if the manual page file of lets say 16gb? works for you, that may be overkill but it may solve the issue. At low settings the game would use nowhere near what your card has to maybe windows just has a tiny page file or perhaps there are apps in the background consuming it? Windows is supposed to automatically allocate the resources but perhaps that is not working the way it should be. Keep me up to date on your progress in this matter and I will help in whatever way I can :-)
