PSN requirement (or region locking regardles of it)

Seriously, does anyone have an explanation as to why Sony is persistently region locking single player games that no longer require (or never have) PSN. Latest in line is Lost Soul Aside, that got locked a few hours ago.
I really would like to make sense of this, because from my POV, the only winner is Kingston, selling me the SSD to store all the games I would have otherwise bought.
