strategy against snake boss?

So, got to the mid boss in the crucible for the first time (I assume it is the mid boss) which is the giant cobra guy. I was dancing around him for about 10 minutes, he was constantly invulnerable. I destroyed the orbs that seemed to be giving him armor, killed several waves of minions he kept spawning and shielding and was attacking him in between all of that. I ended up just getting worn down over time, plus there was heat wave on that mission so I was occasionally getting pegged by fireballs while avoiding him. What is the strategy to beat this guy? I was probably missing something obvious but I killed everything he spawned but couldn't do damage to him.

He is actually quite simple. Wait for him to dash to you, but position yourself so that he crashes into a wall.
