Don't even know, just want to report though that the game doesn't work anymore, inventor mode is not loading anymore and i don't seem to have any save anymore

New version uses Unity Engine 6.0 and DX11. Previously it didn't use third-party engines I think.

I can't get it to work though, I only have a window with a stylized cog image and no menu.

The location of save files is also changed and old save probably won't work. New save location seems to be %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Lazy 8 Studios\Cogs but since game doesn't fully work there's no file but only logs and steam_autocloud.vdf.

I recently did a complete overhaul of the game! I figured that since it's an old game without many players, people would be ok with starting their save files from scratch.... but maybe not. If you want your old save file, reach out at support@lazy8studios.com and I'll tell you how to copy it from the old location to the new one. Just let me know what platform your on.

If the game isn't working for you at all, let me know what you're seeing. Does it not launch? Crash? What platform are you on?

Can you make the old version also available? It's usually done via "Betas", see https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/store/application/branches

All I see is this picture in a window

Platform: Win11 23H2, Core i5-12600K, RTX 4070TI, 32 GB RAM.

BTW there's a folder named "Cogs_BurstDebugInformation_DoNotShip" in game folder now.
Something tells me it shouldn't be shipped.

P.S. here's log file, it seems to have quite a lot of errors

You're a dream user, Mastan! Thank you for sending the log! This behavior is what I would expect if there were a data error in one of the Cogs files -- like a bad bit on the hard drive. Can you try uninstalling and reinstalling Cogs to see if you get the same behavior?

And indeed, I did accidentally bundle the DoNotShip files in the depot. But that won't break anything. It's just debug information that's useful for diagnosing problems.

Feel free to reach out by email -- support@lazy8studios.com -- for faster replies.

Will do that myself, I started playing this game only "recently" (1 year ago), also it softlocks when I try inventor mode now (already tried a redownload)

Any reason why you can't just tell us how to restore our save files here, rather than make us email you? I've owned this game for ages but just happened to pick it up again this month. I was getting pretty close to 100% and I don't appreciate having my save file wiped at all... I think that's kind of insane

I did some code exploration through the 16 years of different versions and it looks like, most recently, I was using a legacy cloud-save API that Steam offered. So there is not save file on your computer that you can just copy and paste into the new location. I'll take some time to integrate with the newest Steam API to see if I can find a way to fetch and restore your old cloud save and port it to the new preferred Steam API.

In the meantime, just type "unlock" when you open Cogs to get access to every puzzle.

The old cloud save file should be here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<id>\26500\remote\
Where <id> is userid, a string of numbers.

Also you can download it from the https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorageapp/?appid=26500
Unless it was already overwritten.
Seems to play ok for me on Win10 - was able to do the first level just fine, though I notice it doesn't play fullscreen (can't remember if that was always the case). Only options in the settings seem to be sound now.

Even maximised: The Windows taskbar remains visible along the bottom and the Cogs menu bar running along the top. Anyone else getting that?

Yup! Found a .dat file that lines up nicely with when I last made progress in the game. Though seems it's expecting a .txt file now. Does this mean it needs converting?

I pushed out a change to the PC build today that should fix several bugs that you friendly folks brought up here. Feel free to send other bugs or feature requests to support@lazy8studios.com
Neat! Thank you so much, rjagnow. Old save file popped right up and all the progress from before appeared again

Something is still broken for me. I now have menus and can select and start puzzles but there's no gameplay area on the right.

With Steam: Win/Proton version runs, Linux version does not. (i am on Ubu 24)

Without Steam the Linux version works. I guess its now unlocked from Steam = Free to play.
(i copied the Steam install folder over to other non-Steam games folder. to be safe... TY
