new achievements showed up but I've never seen a 'rare' spirit
whatever update this is for isn't published either

It's not out yet. They're going to be like "shinies" from Pokemon.

Dunno what to tell you, they're not in the game.
Could be from the dev testing the achievement, could be some private beta test somewhere, we don't know.
They're not in the game.
(EDIT: if anyone's wondering, three days after posting this, the game got the update that added them. You can now catch shinies.)

In the community discord for the developer there was an offer to community test the new update before it went live. I have been able to play this update for around 2 days now. Regardless, that's how.

And the update has gone live as of today anyway.
