Not sure about nuclear Armageddon because when I had them established no nuclear exchange occurred. I recommend starting with upgraded subs and positioning them in north Atlantic, you need to kill off their ships. This helps your allied ships, prevents the UK from falling, and allows you to move your own ships in for support. If you take out all their ships your aircraft should be able to fly without much worry, just take out a couple SAM launchers. You need the carrier to be in the English channel. Since the start of the game you need to be shuttling over army divisions using your newfoundlands army base to use supply aircraft to drop them. They shouldn't be able to take Paris if you use the carrier and a few army divisions.

I didn't see nukes fly at all when I played that mission.
The russian fleets are mean, but the trick is to just place some coastal defense batteries in iceland and the UK (3-5 each) and you'll sink all the ships they bring to bear.
Regardless of supply lines, you can immediately start shipping troops via transport plane from the US to Europe. Gather your divisions in Europe into 1 spot for local superiority and have them focus fire 1 enemy division at a time and you'll be able to hold without losing much territory.
To avoid the soviets escalating, make sure you aren't firing any nukes.

To add, do not invade any Soviet territory. When I went to take Kalingrad they decided to nuke everything. Only take back the Orange faction countries from the enemy
Mh they nuke me regardless, usually if my troops arrive in germany.. Is there way to save turkey ?

It seems like i kinda lack the range to do so, I can not directly airdrop in europe

You gotta use iceland as a midpoint iirc

If you have the High Efficiency Heavy Airframe tech, then you can use your North Eastern army bases to aridrop armies directly into Europe (without landing in Iceland)

I found the nuke issue, if you have tactical nuclear weapons researched, army groups will equip & use Nuke artillery by default. Shouldn't be really the case, ABC weapons should be selected explicitly, not by default

Is there any way to build in Europe, besides the deploy-able FOB, etc? That is can you build a full army base?

After a certain amount of time, yes. It's the 'build in allies' alliance option that is disabled until that point to mimic the US being caught flat-footed

At the start, No.

After a certain amount of time passes though, you will be notified that "Supply Lines have been Established", at which point you can build in European territory.

Struggling with this as well, I think if you're upgraded enough one of your units will start blasting warning satellites and that triggers a general exchange.
Had this happen to me earlier and did some testing.

Chemical weapon use has two triggers. Either when you start using it or shortly after invading warsaw pact territory.

Tactical nuclear weapon (targeting your units) will trigger if you use tactical nuclear weapons (including nuclear artillery on army divisions).

Strategic nuclear weapons will trigger either if you deploy tactical/strategic nuclear weapons against cities or if you invade the Soviet Union proper.

I haven't confirmed the details, but the strategic nuclear trigger may also include destroying army/airbases in the Soviet Union as well. Basically, stay clear of the border and potentially keep a close eye on your multirole fighters / navy to make sure there are no accidents.
I have MAD occur even when I don't shoot down any satellites and before supply lines are established. I think it might be bugged, because the soviets should only deploy their ICBMs if
1. Pollution > 10
2. You destroy one of their missile silos
3. You nuke one of their cities
4. You invade one of their regions

Using tactical nukes is only supposed to trigger the soviets to start using their tactical nukes, not trigger an immediate Armageddon. (Although the pollution from tactical nukes can trigger it anyway.)

Using chemical weapons should only trigger the AI to use them as well.
