For all their technology, for all their science and wisdom, they went extinct. They had the cure right there in there hands! The Sea Emperor tried to tell them what to do! And they still ♥♥♥♥ed it all up.

They could not "hear" what she was saying. But did they try? No, they put her in a pen, just another fish, to be poked and studied and dissected.

They weren't smart enought to understand what she was saying? No. It's not that they didn't hear, they didn't listen.

They thought they were a master race who could observe tiny humans fighting with swords. They had nothing to learn from any other species, except chemically. They did not treat the Sea Emperor as an equal. They walled her up in a cage to study as a specimen. She got "bored" with them.

The Precursors turned themselves into soulless thinking machines, and so they died.

True. But they were probably more concerned about the death of millions of other species than the life of that one sea emperor. And perhaps they could not hear it's telepathy, we don't have any other source of information confirming it besides the sea emperor. Perhaps they were infected too, and dying slowly leaves them little time to experiment which might have been the cause of that emperor baby?

Are you sure they all went extinct? One of them at least downloaded their memory and the dna bits for the species may still be stored some where on that planetoid.

Oh please stop trying to moralize and actually check your facts. One of the first things you learn about the aliens is that their technology broadcast signals designed to be picked up by organic systems, something human physiology is incapable of. The emperor only communicated through freaky mind manipulation. The statement "they could not hear" is likely as literal as you being blind to infrared light.

So, toss communication out the window. What do we have left? Any sign of tool use? Any signs of a culture or civilization? Anything at all to suggest that the subject has any self awareness whatsoever?

No. Assuming the emperor has genuine sentience and that is not a mere artifact of it communicating with your own mind, it and its kind squandered their abilities to a lifestyle of idleness and stagnation. And as stagnation always does, it killed them.

Precursors never died. They just abandoned their physical forms and uploaded themselves into a data bank. They gave up living for survival.

I am fiarly certain the Sea Emperor could not communicate withe the Precursor, probably due to thier over use of Cybernetics.

It's been over a year since I posted this, and I still think I'm right.
