Inventory too close to face in VR
Playing with the Vive, its working fine, but the inventory screen is so close to my face in VR that its eye straining to read it and contributes to sort of a VR fatigue factor.

I just uploaded a mod to fix the main issues with VR. I'm still working on more improvements but it is already much better. The PDA should be further out now but I will be working on moving it back some more and scaling it up. https://www.nexusmods.com/subnautica/mods/173

I can confirm, it works as intended. Actually, I would like to have the inventory even more away from my face, but at least now it is playable.

Exactly my thoughts. The "F**k VR community" attitude is just over 9000 in this DEV team. "What VR? VR is just a gimmick and nobody cares anyway!" ... "I can look perfectly fine with my cross-eyes the current PDA ... so it's THEIR problem they can't! It works perfectly for me!" .... just sad.

I can understand why they may not have put more effort into the VR implementation. The fixes were pretty simple but I don't have the problem they would have of having many other higher priority tasks to deal with. It's a small team and I appreciate the fact that we have any VR at all considering the size of the VR market.

For a year or longer, I come back to the Subnautica Forum every month or so to check if this is finally fixed. Throughout that time, I've never actually played the game, because I assumed it would be much more marvelous if I encountered everything for the first time when I'd finally play it in VR.

Today, thanks to you, I finally had my first couple of hours of virtual diving and enjoyed every second of it.

my issue is it shouldn't be advertised as VR supported and sold on oculus store if they never really finished VR implementation or planned to support it.. should of just stayed in a beta branch

The mod is definitely an improvement, I can see the status bar at the bottom now (so no missing the sunbeam arrival), the PDA is much more readable (but still a bit too close) and having the option to have the animations in (like for getting in/out of vehicles) is really nice too. Good stuff.

There's still some other issues with VR. Like having to switch on the gaze-based cursor to interact with a number of interfaces - the scanner room, the cyclops controls, the vehicle customization station, and keypads.

I agree the PDA is still too close and I have a version of the mod where I got the arms to extend further out but getting it to look right was difficult so I just uploaded the none extended version. I can however easily move just the screen back but the PDA device will remain disconnected in the player's hand.

Works well. I bought this game to my new VR now and this inventory thing was the only thing that annoyed me and let me got sick :D But your mod works fine! Don't stop developing! :)

Your a F boss!!! I do think the devs of this game really dropped the ball here. It's nuts how just a small quality of life change here can make such a huge difference in the games' experience. The inventory is 100x better now and while in my Cyclops I can easily turn the engine on/off no longer having to ghost mouse the buttons, i haven't tested it yet, but I'm guessing this probably fixed me having to ghost mouse the pin key doors also. I can also see my seaglide better in front of me while swimming around. Totally awesome. The devs probably gave up on fixing this themselves because you did it for them. Kudos! Major Kudos, this games VR experience is a must and simple quality fixes like this are clutch. :steamhappy:

Regarding what you said, do you think it would be possible for you to share the version of your mod which moves the inventory etc even farther away from your eyes? The current version is cool, but I feel I still need to strain my sight too much. Even, as you say, if it would be disconnected from the hand - I would not have any problems with that fact if it makes it more comfortable on the eyes.

The current version positions the PDA in a completely different way from the original version so now you can move your head to adjust the distance from the PDA. You can just move your head backwards to get further from the PDA.
