Insta-death on load, spawn point confusion?

I was exploring the Lost River and came across the entrance to the lava layer. Before going in, I did a quick save and hopped out of my seamoth (wanted to avoid crush depth). After exploring and eventually dying due to lack of oxygen, I quit to main menu and loaded up my save.

As it loaded me in I heard the game in the background and the "Welcome Aboard Captain" message. As soon as it finished loading me in, I instantly died and saw the damage effects around my seamoth before blacking out.

After I respawned I realized I wasn't even on my cyclops, I was back at the lifepod. I saw that my cyclops was alive and I left it with enough power (about 60%) with silent running off. So I ended up losing my seamoth, dying, and was thrown to the very start point of the game.

Note: My exploration of the Lost River and all of the above were on the same update (cuddle fish).

UPDATE: Tried for the fifth time and suddenly it's fine???
