Because I did and all my pings stopped working.
If I drop new a beacon it works until I walk thru a portal again then it stops.
Basically, from what I've seen, walking thru a portal permanently disables all current (but not future) pings.
I've noticed that it happens most (if not only) if i go through the portal in my Prawn suit.
I'm gonna try reloading the save later. I was so horrified by the loss of all the carefuly placed beacons that I was ready to let the game rest for another few months.
Thanks for your input, man.
Go to ...\Steam\SteamApps\common\Subnautica\SNAppData\SavedGames\slot000 (or slot #, depending of which save you have trouble with) and delete all the batch-objects-#-#-# txt files and/or all the files in the CellsCache folder.
That should bring all the pings back, worked for me at least. That is until I move through a portal again.
DO NOT delete the files in the CompiledOctreesCache, that WILL erase your entire save file.
How old is your saved game?
