Cache files are in different folder, safe to delete?
Hello Everybody,

I'm experreing some crashing in the game, so I want to delete the cache files. But the weird thing is, that my folders are in different places in my game map than how they are in the most tutorials.

I have 1 CellsCache folder in Steam\SteamApps\common\Subnautica\SNAppData\SavedGames\slot0000. So that's look like in the toturial.

But my CompiledOctreesCache folder is in the map Data18, and in the same map (data18) is also another CellCache folder. Do I delete the files of alle this 3 folders, or just the one in the save folder?

Sorry for the bad English, I hope someone can help me.

Thank you!

The only folder you can mess with within the subnautica game directory is your saved game folder named slot####. The files you want are located in there. In the slot0000 folder there should be a bunch of batch-objects-#-#-#.txt files and under the cellscache folder under that are the baked-batch-cells-#-#-#.bin files. Those files are the only ones you can safely delete. The only other place you can remove files in is your temp folder and that's located someplace else entirely under users/allusers/unknown worlds/subnautica and that should empty when you close out of the program. Do not mess anything in the other directories of the game.

Okay thank you very much! But I don't understand why The CompiledOctreesCache folder is not in my slot0000 folder. Because I wanted to delete the files in that folder(like they are advising in the tutorials, if you have crashing issues).

I Tried to remove the files in the CompiledOctreesCache, after that my whole game went empy, like al the flore, fauna, materials, eggs where missing, so I learned that it's not save.

But I really want to play my game without crashing every 30 seconds. Does somebody have another idea?

The only folder whose cache you can safely delete is the cache folder in your applicable save slot. You do NOT want to delete any cache in the "SNUnmanagedData/Build18" folder. If you delete the cache in both the Build18 and SavedGames folders, your game world will be empty (terrain only - no plants, animals, nothing). Here's how it works:

When files in "SNAppData/SavedGames/slot####/CellsCache" are deleted (i.e. when you clear your slot's cache), the "slot####/CellsCache" folder gets "repopulated" with the stock "SNUnmanagedData/Build18/CellsCache" files. The "Build18/CellsCache" folder is the default game world (before any resources are harvested).
