Bug with PCF Ghost Forest Portal

I went through one of the portals in the Primary Containment Facility & it took me to the arch portal behind the brine waterfall (I think it's called the Ghost Forest Arch). So I then went back through the portal thinking I would be back in the Primary Containment Facility, but instead when I exited the portal, I was in free-fall in total darkness. I could see beacon icons above me as I fell and the depth meter showed I was falling very rapidly. After a while of falling, I suddenly landed on the ocean floor near Lifepod 5, but the physics were not water physics, they were land physics—I could hear echos like I was in a cave and footsteps like I was on land. I could not swim, so I was just walking around on foot on the seafloor.

this exact same thing just happened to me. literally the same portal, going the same direction and everything. even the part where it seemed like i arrived at the containment facility momentarily, only to be immediately pulled back into the portal and then thrown out into darkness. i currently have the game paused with me at 988m and falling while i look online for some way to salvage my game. only obvious difference i can see is that you're playing without hunger and thirst while my game is in hunger and thirst mode. i'll go ahead and submit a bug report in-game and include a link to this thread. then i guess ill let myself fall and see if i arrive at the ocean floor. hopefully i can use console commands to get back to where i was :/. by any chance, have you attempted that portal again to see if the bug repeats itself?

after falling to -8193m, i also cycled back to 0 and landed next to my safe shallows base near lifepod 5. so it was pretty much the exact same glitch all around.

also, WOW, i was down there so long i'd forgotten how gorgeous the safe shallows were 😍. talk about an abrupt transition; from the depths of hell, straight into paradise, lol 😏

... hmmm... i wonder if i could walk all the way back down there 🤔

Yep, it always happened for me, except for on certain occasions that I couldn't replicate. :(
So, the cause is unknown to me, but I too was thinking it might be interesting to try to play the rest of the game that way. Maybe with the consocle command dig you could manage to terraform your way down from high to places you couldn't reach safely on foot.
