I have not experienced Rdbury's frustrations with the Room. I found it an essential addition to the game, with enough space for all the storage I need plus an operations area. Maybe it's just that after living in New York City for 11 years I feel the need for space!
I could only place one window at a time but I got rid of the blueprint and had nothing else prepped to build and still couldn't place a ladder onto my second story. My second story was the same, another large room right on top of the first.
That was I was hoping AGAINST because this thing is so cool. Hopefully it can be made to work
I had a lot already built in the room but nothing even close inside or out of the area I wanted to place a window. Also I completely understand the yearn to stretch your legs when living like that hahaha. I just like spacious interiors!

I would recommend building the internal units first before you start decorating the large room, as it can interfere with the building.
