thare are certainly games you should mod before playing (bethesda or bad console porst) or even games you buy just to play a mod (pubg, dota, etc)
this however is not one of those games.
at most i would get a more action bar slots mod, but that's just some very minor QoL.

Back on topic: On a first playthrough, I agree to enjoy the game in its vanilla state. The one and only exception is when you plan to play in VR mode. The VR enhancements mod or the more experimental SubmersedVR fix some big pain points and make Subnautica much more enjoyable in VR.
