How do you find a floating island?

I've seen screenshots of floating islands and I was wondering how you find them.

Go to the Aurora's engines, face them, then head the other way for a long time. Eventually you'll see some islands.

Eat and drink up, get your battery/power cell ready. It took me almost 5 min to reach it with Seamoth.

Are they always opposite the Aurora's engines? I got the impression that most of the map is generated randomly. If the floating islands are a set landmark it would be nice.

Well, I've started three new games and received a somewhat different map each time (my starting biome was changed after switching from experimental to stable after the update) but the ship and the lifepod are always in a set location.

your starting location is somewhat randomized, the map itself is hand built so it is allways the same
