Creature Scanner and Database
A game with such awesome creatures shouldnt make you go to an online wiki to find the name of lifeforms with such awesome designs. I think we should have a scanner tool to identify plants and animals ingame and create a lexicon of the different inhabitants of subnautica.
For a while i was calling the gasfish a Chernobylfish and the reefback a "lovecraftian behemoth of nightmare fuel" and the stalkers doucheacudda because I had no ingame database to explain these things. Now that I've explored the game a bit more I'm interested in the behaviors and backstories of what these awesomely designed plants and animals and haveing a tool that does just that would be awesome.

exploring things yourself is always way better then just looking up spoilers in the internet

Endless Ocean did this, and their system, or something like it, would be perfect here. You get a catalogue when you see something, and more information about their behaviour as you interact with them more. Any game with alien ecosystems should have some sort of pokedex, I think. You already have a transfuser; a database of sampled species is the next logical step.

Yes, Tom Jubert has added many Flora and Fauna entries. The name for that 3 legged one eyed thing is so funny :))

huh. wasnt expecting new comments :steamhappy: I checked out the scanner, but it is not one like i was talking about. the one they have currently implemented is a tool used to gather blueprints, not a bioscanner. also, i must say i am still impressed with how much the game has been improving. Proper sea bases, explorable aurora, 50 ft nightmares, the blood kelp zones and eels, crab snakes finally in game... nice to see early access actually used proffesionaly unlike greenlight crap. Maybe one day they'll add a proper bioscanner or add another function to the current one. happy new year to all

Have you tried scanning any creatures yet with it? It is also a bio scanner, and there are already a handful of creatures set up that can be scanned with it. Our writer is currently working on PDA encyclopedia entries for all of the creatures (and many plants) that will be getting added into the game in batches as he finishes them.

update* yup, tried it now and it works. earlier this last week i tried it on a rabbit ray and it didnt do anything, so not sure if it was a bug or not. either way awesome work! noticed some of the entries seem still under construction, but i can probably just report in-game. Also, having a special animation like a holographic grid show up on the scanned object would be pretty cool, but i might be asking for too much at this point lol. you guys are awesome!

also: HOLY COW A DEV REPLIED TO MY POST! THATS AWESOME!
