I don't know for sure that the rebreather works, I haven't tested it recently. But I *think* it works, it seemed to the first and only time I used it.

It can work from anywhere in your inventory, you don't have to be holding it or anything, it's like the fins and tanks that way.

It doesn't give you infinite oxygen, or even extend your oxygen duration by all that much. What it does is cancel out depth effects that make you use up oxygen more quickly. So with the rebreather, you use your oxygen at the same rate regardless of depth, whereas normally you breathe more air if you are deeper.

This means it has little to no effect when in shallow water, but can make a pretty big difference if you are way down in the depths.

WELL A REBREATHER IS AN ENCLOSED LOOP system.which the air you expel goes through a scrubber and then get's purified to be breathed again.
hence to add a longer dive time to the said diver.and to have less effect on nitrogen production in the said diver's blood stream their in fourth adding even more time to the diver's overall bottom time .
i have used the rebreather in shallow and deep water.but i can notice no difference at all between the both .

Yeah, I think most everyone reading this understands what a rebreather is in real life. I thought you were asking what it was supposed to do IN THE GAME, as a game item is not always a direct simulation of a real-life object.

Hmph, interesting. Which build are you on? 15015 or the experimental branch? I'm on 15015 right now but was planning on switching to experimental in a couple hours, so either way I can test and let you know if it is working for me.

ah! thanks ! :)

After testing the rebreather with a stopwatch, I met death at 50 seconds while sitting at 200 meters. Then I removed the rebreather from my inventory and tried again, same result. Death at 50 seconds with 100 oxygen with and without a rebreather.

It does not seem to work at this moment in the release branch.

Though visually, breathing does appear to be calmer.. it just doesn't affect survivability at all.

ya im not expecting it to be real to life. am in the 15015 build. but if their going to use the word rebreather it should have some simular features of the iteam their stating it being.IMHO.

as for it ingame rite now it doesnt perform in any capacity. which is to bad becuase to carry 3 tanks takes up half your storage space and i find that crazy.they just need to retink how they want the rebreather to be used?

Thanks for saving me the time. ;) Yeah ok, I guess it's broken. I do feel like it was working to some extent in a previous experimental build, but I guess it could have been imagined, as I didn't pull out a stop watch back then.

I try to use it and does not work as I can see with still losting O2 sast like normal you do without it.

you can always use the debug menu and type oxygen and use your imigination with the rebreather....

same, crafted it today and it doesn't seem to make any difference

just takes up inventory space

I'm having the same problem. Since I dont want to craft a seamoth but I still need lithium for the cyclops

I came here after noticing my rebreather had stopped working after the crash scene update. Before then it would double my oxygen as instead of it going 75 to 72 it would make my oxygen go down slower like 75 to 74 to 73 etc. It's a shame it doesn't work as it gave me a reason to want to shut off the radiation at the aurora, also Strask says that it worked anywhere in your inv like the tank, I had tried this before it had broke and it wouldn't work without being equipped in the helmet slot.

Rebreather is a helmet mod slot. I'm not sure who stated it only has to be in your inventory, but that is incorrect. It goes into the helmet slot on your paper doll.

That's correct, my statement that it could be anywhere in inventory was from months and months ago when there was no paper doll implemented yet. :)
