This may be more basic than you intended the question to be. If so I apologise, but just in case:

You scan several fragments of Modification Station found in and around various hunks of wreck. Just as you scan fragments for Tools, Seamoth, Cyclops, etc.

Find shipwrecks, Find entrances and cealed doors, laser cut them. Explore fully shipwreck from inside and outside and move to next one if you didn't find anything

As a rule, you can find everything you need in the two/three nearest wrecks.

only a few special things have to be found somewhere further away
