Does a loose guide exist for this game?
I enjoy the exploration, thing is at some points I just don't know what I'm supposed to be looking for or doing. Is there a guide that keeps things very simple?

For example something like...

"If you just built the sea-glide. Keep your eye out for ____ blueprint to go deeper"
or
"If you have just found this, you can now further explore this"

Something like that?

I don't want spoilers but I am really bad with directions so I get lost and then end up around the same biomes and markers over and over because I worry something was missed!

There are really 2 principles to keep in mind to progress:

- follow the life pods. The game sends you to various life pods, they all have something next to them (resources, cave, tunnel, etc) that helps you progress
- keep trying to go deeper

If you do that you can't really be blocked/lost.

I don't know of any guides that won't have a lot of spoilers.

My tips are:

Use a lot of beacons. You can turn them on and off in the beacon page.

Go deeper.

Explore everywhere.

SCAN EVERYTHING.

Try to harvest everything.

In real life it's almost like I have an internal compass, but in games that joke about getting lost in a walk-in closet could almost apply. In my first playthrough I probably had about 100 beacons. After I finished the story, and for following games, I installed the map mod.

A few more:

Follow the lifepods like vinyl mentioned, and the radio transmissions. And pay attention to the pda and voice messages.

And a tip it took me probably 100 hours to figure out. You can carry extra air tanks and swap them out.

The game is pretty good at guiding you. Read your PDA about alien messages and all that. You always need to progress down.
Stay away of guides, this game is about exploration and spoilers just ruin it.

If you are lost, go deeper. If you can't, find blueprints.

Other than that, pay attention to everything your PDA says, if it says it's detecting something at X deep, there is where you want to go.
