Story in game
I have tried and failed to play this game through a few times now, usually stopping about an hour in. Is there a decent story line in the game? I feel like I could push through and really give the game a chance if I know there is a sweet sweet storyline reward waiting for me.

The reward is in messages from the PDA. These messages contain a lot of information that is not on the surface, and the plot only adds to the picture.

The ship youre traveling on suddenly gets shot down. You dont know why or how. Just that youre now in an escape pod, floating on an unknown planet.
Your first Goal is clear - survive. Your second Goal is also clear - find a way Home.
So what do you have to do? Explore the Ocean to find stuff to survive and clues on how to get home.
Your Escape Pod is damaged, so your instinct should tell you to repair your current home.
If you did that, you will find more and more clues because of the Radio... until you get a Signal from another Spaceship.
This is the beginning that you probably know already. I dont want to spoiler you.
The more you progress and explore, the more clues you will find. These clues tell a Story ... actually its 3 Stories that are linked together.
There is a sweet sweet storyline and bittersweet ending, persevere & you'll be rewarded :steamhappy:
alright ill give it a real go. thanks all

the story is pretty good, nothing amazing on its own but it fits really well in this survival game. This game makes you look for the story though, most of the appeal in this game is from exploration, and exploring for the story is part of that.
The story is good as in "Not shot in your face, just delivered at the same time you explore and play". That is what I find the sweetest because I'm really not fond of the games that take you by hand and almost play at your place.

So, if you keep in mind that you need to explore and interact with the world to unveil the story, you'll probably have a good time. Maybe a stunning one because the game has a lot to offer and while narration may be a bit simple, it fits the needs of the world.
Reading the PDA is part of it. It might be boring for many, but there is a lot of content there. It's clasified by theme, so you don't need to read all the flora entries if you don't want to, but some entries will fill some gaps on the storytelling.
Game story is this:
*Ahem* The ship your on, called the Aurora gets destroyed and crashes onto 4546B with you as the only survivor, you have 2 goals; Don't get eaten, and find a way off the planet. Along the way you learn about this disease known as the Kharaa bacterium, with no known cure other than a substance known as Enzyme 42. You meet this big ahh leviathan known as the Sea Emperor, who wants you to hatch her eggs, if you do help her, she'll give you the cure to the Kharaa (Enzyme 42) and the planet is saved blah blah blah and you manage to successfully escape (So long as you disable the giant alien gun (The thing that destroyed the Aurora in the first place and eventually the Sunbeam (The ship that tries to save you) cuz if you don't shut it down then your gonna get shot by it), then you listen to an absolute banger of a credits song (Nobody cares about the credits in these things) then pay a small debt of *Ahem* 1,000,000,000,000 credits.

Sorry.
No problem. Just on the off chance that if people know the whole story they won’t have as much incentive to find out for themselves
All in good humor

That is true, games tend to be less fun when you already know what's gonna happen.

if you're struggling you could always watch someone else play - i finished my game - then watched it here because these guys make it so interesting. Plus you'll recognize their voices from the game from one of the radio transmissions.
