(I spent an afternoon knocking down River Raiders with Deep Schrooms once.)
Wasn't the intended purpose to gather resources hidden behind rocks, originally? There's plenty in BZ, but I don't remeber having seen that in Subnautica.
It is really great for snatching minerals off the walls in the LR, without having to either exit the Suit, or do the awkward jump-or-grapple'n'grab routine.
(Although it is very smart to learn the jump/grapple'n'grab technique, I think.)
You can also use it like you do the hand held one, to retrieve resources down in the mouths of lava vents...but with less superficial scalding & med-kits.
(Hmmm. I wonder how much damage a crate will do, if you fling it at a leviathan? Ah, crazy pet tricks.)
But the Prop gun for Prawn or Ryley are both good for pulling resources out of the acidic brine of the Lost River.
In general it makes gathering resources easier. Instead of swiimming up to and breaking open/grabbing something, just point and click it into your inventory.
For Prawn Prop, pull objects next to you, turn, release Prop beam to drop in pile. Betta than nuffin!
