And nothing is actively hunting you, there is very little reason to go where the the big boys live. I have played through this game several times and have never killed anything except by accident. You don't even need to kill fish to survive. Just rely on your own intelligence I'm sure you're smarter than any fish.
That's kinda flawed reasoning here. You're playing a survival game, the main goal here is to survive. You're stranded on an alien planet with different life forms, where some of them are naturally hostile to you. Making them peaceful would defy the purpose of survival. Part of it is to AVOID those nasties at all costs. You're there to try to survive and get back home, not to make new friends.
Of course fighting might not be your thing, but you know what? It's also not required in this game. You're not supposed to fight these enormous creatures, that want to eat you alive, you're supposed to swim far far away from them as fast as you can and generally avoid them, if you can. So even if fighting isn't your cup of tea, it isn't required (even recommended) in this game. So again, your request seems odd. Your goal in this game isn't to kill every bad guy, because you won't get any resources from doing that, so there's no reason. Your goal is to mine resources, build stuff, solve an issue and then leave the planet. Avoiding those big creatures would be the best idea, increasing your chances of staying alive for another day. Making them peaceful would make the game stupidly easy and boring. Just saying.
I'll reiterate what others have said, though -- the danger from creatures is more illusion than actual. If you just ignore all the hostile creatures, you'll be OK far more likely than you think.
Also why are you guys lecturing him about how he should be playing the game? Games are there for fun and if this is what he enjoys, that's ok. The game is already "stupidly easy and boring," most of its playtime consists of re-re-re-retracing your steps and gathering materials that makes it possible to gather more materials. The difficulty is psychological, being willing to visit deeper, darker waters and swim past aggressive creatures. Mechanically, it's marginally more difficult than, I dunno, Bejeweled 2 or Angry Birds. Which is to say it's a casual game.
the main plot?
Neither one of the last, and deepest two leviathans, are any real trouble at all to get buy, without them bothering you. If that's the part of the main plot to you're talking about
As for all the others there's no reason even go where they live because there are resources everywhere. There's only one other place you might run into a leviathan that's somewhat close to where you might need to go but even then they don't get that close and it's easy to sneak around its location.
None of the other creatures are any real threat at all, more annoying than anything.
But this is exactly the intended way of playing the game. You're not supposed to be a "Rambo" character, one without fear, you should be paranoid and look over your shoulder quite often in this game. It's not you, it's the game, that makes you feel that way. No one should play it like "yo, I'mma immortal, let's go kill that big baddie over there!". The game is supposed to be a bit frustrating. I get that you may have issues with fear and whatnot, but the game is designed to count with that. I don't wanna be rude or something, but if it's too much for you, maybe you should find a different game. It sounds rough, I know, but this is absolutely, how the game was intended.
I get that people can play their games however they like. Nothing wrong with that. But some games are apparently not for everyone, instead of encouraging people in "overcoming" their difficulties by other means (like mods, cheats, editing and whatnot), maybe a better idea would be to tell them, how things are, if the game isn't their cup of tea, then forcing other methods only to let them play the games that aren't designed for them ... I'm not really sure if that's the right way. I'm not against cheating in a singleplayer game, heck I'm doing it mayself in most games, but changing the game's intended nature, just so a guy, who's afraid, could enjoy it, I dunno. For me, something doesn't click there. I rather spend my time "lecturing" a guy, in hopes he'll give up on a game, that's not meant for him, instead of encouraging him, that there's a way to "force" his viewpoint upon the game (by cheating, or mods, or whatever). Modifications are an awesome thing, but again, I play with mods for fun, not to overcome my fears or stuff. With cheats and all, the exact same thing.
So if someone has ARACHNOPHOBIA (not me, I find spiders beautiful and fascinating), would you recommend to get a mod to change all spiders in a game to dunno, rabbits or stuff? Just for a guy to enjoy it? It'll make the game different, less enjoyable in my eyes. Because (and this would come weird from someone, who just said, that she loves spiders) there's a satisfaction in smashing spiders on screen (could also work as a cure for arachnophobia, the more you smash them, the less you fear them). XD
I personally find the idea of "fixing" someone's fear with mods and stuff absolutely dumb. Whenever I see a new mod popping up, that reasons with "for all people, who have 'insert a phobia here', this mod is for you", I have an urge to write them a long article, about how their mod sucks and how they are stupid for thinking, that this will help someone. It won't. No one ever overcame their fear by AVOIDING IT!
you press Shift and Enter to enable the console for the first time since booting up the game. And every other time it will be just Enter for that session.
and then you type "invisible" (without quotes) and hit Enter
and then the aggressive fauna will simply ignore you, and your vehicles and bases
but you will still need oxygen and sustenance, and have to deal with power and pressure etc
sounds like what you want :-)
and just to remind you the same thing the other poster said - all cheats reset when you load a game - and so you will have to activate it again each time you load
enjoy :-)
i tried it - and it does exactly what you want - everything in the game is the same, but the monsters don't attack
also - it is probably the reason why there are mods to pacify individual monsters, but not all of them - since this code pacifies all of them, and so a mod is unnecessary
but if someone just wants to pacify certain monsters, then they would need a mod for each
but yes - for what you want - invisible mode is it :-)
the main bonus being that i can play with the sound off, and not have to worry about being attacked
and i am aware that since the player can survive most attacks, that theoretically i could play with the sound off without using the invisible mode
but since i always play with one life, and since in my last game i got killed by half a dozen sulphur things chasing me through a cave full of stingers - and that time i had the sound on lol - i figured i would have a game where i could enjoy some underwater building and survival without the monsters
since most monsters have sound cues so that you know they are near - and so not having those cues is a recipe to get attacked more often, and to make death far more likely than it would otherwise be
but still....
maybe i will drown
or maybe i will manage to accidentally die of thirst lol
or run myself down by jumping out of the seamoth too fast
but either way, it is nice to have the option to play in this mode - to enjoy most of the game's mechanics, while listening to something else in the background
obviously the sound effects in this game are great, and do a significant amount for the underwater atmosphere
but i have experienced them - and i will do so again
but just thought i would point out that some players appreciate having many options for how they play their favorite games
and while i prefer the full survival experience with the sound on and the monsters aggressive - i am glad to have this option - as well as glad that those that don't like the monsters can also enjoy everything else this game has to offer
games are supposed to be fun - and in most cases, customization options simply mean that more players are able to make the game more accurately suit their tastes - as well as allowing players to have more ways to enjoy their games
seems like some positive, consumer friendly game design to include these options
so it is nice that they have been included :-)
