mods to make the game feel more like endless ocean?
maybe not the right question lol, i dont know how i can describe what i mean to people unless theyve actually played ye olde 2007 endless ocean for the wii

i guess what i really want are mods to make the game feel new and unexplored to someone whos already played and explored it before. endless ocean was all about the thrill of discovering new things with little danger or survival aspects

i found a mod that makes everything '???' until you scan it which sounds enjoyable, but it has little use when im pretty sure i already know all the creatures and such by heart lol. So is the next step to get new creature and biome mods maybe? the few biome mods ive seen so far looked super lackluster

just give me some recommendations please. ive never modded this game before

well... you could try Subnautica Below Zero as official Game. Same Planet, different Location, (almost all) new Flora and Fauna.
Never modded the Game myself, but i heard of many good looking Mods.
found a Video how to install Mods, hope it helps.

Beside that, Subnautica 2 is said to be in early Access in 2025. You maybe saw the Trailer.

These two games should be merged instead, with surface ships based on famous research ships, IA-LA seamarks, and plenty of islands to discover. Besides, why bother leaving when the action actually takes place on Earth?

There are plenty of mods that introduce new creatures to the game, introduce new biomes, change the existing biomes, move wrecks and fragments around and change the behavior of the creatures. You are free to either check out some youtubers who are making a list or browse nexus for the latest mods on this.

can't use any unofficial mod, because they don't work on macosx.

ironically i had an idea for what would be a nice mod the other day, one that turns the lifepod into a portable surface mini-base instead, so it would be like a boat that you would pilot to an area and then 'dive' from that location
I couldn't fight the urge anymore so i set up an emu to play ye olde endless ocean and it was the first idea that came to me. that game was great man

Well, the couple that come to mind are the de-extinction and one that adds ancient creatures. One of those is not complete or something, the last time I checked, but both should work. Then there are literally a handful of mods called "randomizers" that move stuff around. Then there are mods with creature behavior in the name.
There are also mods that add more alien structures, caves, etc.
I recommend mod called "alterra ways" since it adds a lot of food stuff that just makes sense and uses a lot of the local flora for it. And the one called "Additions for CC3", which does similar things with more stuff.
There is also this https://www.nexusmods.com/subnautica/mods/1750
Maybe this? https://www.nexusmods.com/subnautica/mods/1522
More leviathans will definitly make it feel like every outing is much longer! https://www.nexusmods.com/subnautica/mods/1557
New cool island https://www.nexusmods.com/subnautica/mods/1870
All of these https://next.nexusmods.com/profile/subqq/mods
And all of these https://next.nexusmods.com/profile/Alexius25/mods

Just look at all the popular mods in the last year on nexus...

nice, but they could work platform-independently and be downloaded as DLC from Steam

All mods should already platform-independent and should run without issues as long as the game runs, it's just not all platforms allow you to actually install them. You simply drop the files inside the game install folder, and then they simply run as a part of the game.

is not compatible, the directory paths given in the plugins documentation do not match. and what to do in the macosx environment with .dll and .exe files that are listed as components plugin dependencies?

I have the entire game here in files named *.bank and *.bundle
Devil knows how this is actually done, I'd rather not hack.

Unless they have a totally different code base or recompiled it specifically for Mac, it should work. I am not familiar with gaming on Mac, so I am not sure how it actually run games, but I am assuming if it's in Steam, then it's Proton. You just need to find the game's root directory yourself and drop Nautilus in it. Then all mods just go into Nautilus folder.

it's totally different. It runs in Steam and it's Unity the Plugins folder exists, but contains *.bundle files only,

The things added there won't work. The game's root folder is called subnautica.app and there are two folders in it: Contents and SNAppData. The latter is for saved game sessions.
The Plugins folder are in Contents folder

All you need to do is a little rtfm. https://www.nexusmods.com/subnautica/mods/1108
It has instructions on how to install it on mac. Follow them. Then just drop mods inside that. They will just work.

Thanks, something gets working, I see Nautilus, I see mod manager. I install that Caribbean island, I don't see it in game. seems like EpicStructureLoader don't work.

Edit: EpicStructureLoader works, but that Caribben island: https://www.nexusmods.com/subnautica/mods/1870 not work. Maybe I doing something wrongly
