Does anyone else just not have enough copper?
I've had a shortage on copper for about 25+ in-game days. Pretty much gathered every limestone outcrop in the safe shallows and biomes close to it. Is there any biome that is full of Copper?

copper ore can be found in virtually EVERY biome, the only biomes without copper are the mountains, mountain island, floating island and bulb zone.

your best bet is to set your Scanner room to look for copper.

thanks, ill do that

If you set your scanner for copper, all you will find is drillable deposits. You have to look for limestone and see if you get copper when you break it open.

Which biome has the most drillable copper?

The Mushroom Forest, Grand Reef, and Blood Kelp zones all have good amounts of drillable copper.

There is a deposit of copper just below the floating islands at the first island with the blood roots on it.

These nodes appear randomly when the game world generates, so it's unlikely that someone will find one in that same spot. However, resources do spawn consistently within biomes.

For EARLY copper, in usable chunks, something like 80% of the ore deposits in Reefback barnacles are copper. (The other 20% are silver, so nothing to sneer at.)

BTW, WHAT in God's name did you use all that copper from the Safe Shallows, Kelp Forest, and Grassy Plateaus FOR??? I have only cleared the central 1km radius, which covers just a (major) fraction of those total biomes, and I have about 6-7 standing Lockers of copper, and no great current need for it. I can't imagine I will ever use it up.

Batteries maybe? Which probably makes me think if that's the case they made the flashlight, which I never did or probably ever will because the flares you start with and get from Lifepod 6 (which reminds me I need to make sure I scavenged those when I last visited) last a very long time before they burnout.

I always find that the light from the Seaglide, which you almost have to have, though slightly dimmer, is usually plenty. Since it burns batteries slower than the flashlight, and you can't have more than one thing in hand at any one time, I just use the Seaglide as a flashlight.

The slightly dimmer light is actually good sometimes for seeing the contrast of outcrops to cave walls, etc.

And...OMG! That would be a LOT of batteries! Even if you are avoiding the Aurora, and so don't have the pot-load that you gather at the ship.

I mean, there are hundreds of units of copper available in outcrops in the Safe Shallows, Kelp Forests, and Grassy Plateaus. You just have to get out of a speedrun mentality, and dedicate a bit of time just to thorough collecting.

yeah but copper wire is needed for a lot of crafting recipes, early game and late game. Copper wire is used for most things like computer chips. Copper is also needed for beacons (which in my experience) are super helpful and I end up making a crap ton of them. Which requires a lot of copper. Also batteries are helpful. I have also gone through tons and tons of limestone chunks myself, and about 80% of them end up being titanium, but maybe that's just luck.

Surely you only need a handful of batteries, should be able to make a simple habitat and get the battery charger in there early on, solar panels for power. Once you have the little submersible it's much easier to go wreckage diving for the good stuff.

All limestone outcrops in the game are 50% titanium, 50% copper.
dreamrider Apr 19, 2022 @ 9:46pm
I also have made about 3 dozen beacons, ~2 batteries per common tool (I deliberately delayed going to Aurora), ~ 25 computer chips for every possible device & vehicle & advanced wiring kit (including multiple fabricators and habitat builders), wire for signage around my bases and, well, everything. I'm not shy about using copper as needed.

I still have 6-7 stand-up Lockers of copper, at least 4-5 of which were collected in SS, KF, and GP. There are a LOT of Limestone Outcrops out there if you scan for them, and knock them open every time you pass one.

why are you going through so much copper? you know batteries can be recharged yes?
