How can I stop being too scared to play?
I love this game to bits but I literally can't go further than the vine biome. Every time I go a bit deeper and see nothing but dark water below me I get claustrophobic and immediately quit the game. I've never even been to the aurora. This even happens when friends are with me (doesn't help that they burst out laughing). I really want to enjoy the game but my fear stops me :sfsad:

Perhaps proffesional certified reliable help would be better than asking random people on the internet.

Your background and personal experiances are vital for a proffesional to be aware of before offering any form of treatment.

This is the last place you should be seeking help.

Well, a lot of us have some type of phobia. Mine is heights. Yes, even in video games where I can't be hurt.

But then, you gather your courage and just do it! Making a huge jump or fall in games make my stomach go nuts, but at the same time it's exciting!

Basic horror exists in the mind. Except for jump scares and such, horror and fear are about the mind, not what we see. Just keep reminding yourself that you cannot be harmed, take a deep breath, and go! You might find it more enjoyable than you previously thought. :)

I found exploring the depths oddly terrifying. What helped was going as far as I was comfortable and then building a base. I found bases to be safe. From that base I'd explore further. As I got more comfortable with the different biomes descending that again far bothered me less and less.

I also tend to keep either the sea floor in view or the surface (if I'm using the Aurora as a guide). I really hate not being able see anything except water above and below. I find the compass really helps me from becoming disorientated too. You might want to cheat the magnetite to make one early.

Still, though, I dislike the red grassy plateaus. The mushroom forests are fine, and I don't mind the sparse reef too much. But I've never liked the openness of the red grassy plateaus.

I've got the same difficulty mate. Best thing for it is a gin and tonic. An audiobook or tv in the background helps too. I TRY and break the immersion, just to play this incredibly addicting game.

Not to friggin' mention, it's like the most jump-scare and hostile area ever. (I've never quite had the balls to get to the Aurora, so maybe I'm wrong.)

Especially when you see those shark things burrowing under the sand. Never know when they might grab you! :)

When things start getting a little "scary" feeling, just keep reminding yourself that this is all pixels and sounds and not real at all. I'm one of those types that LOVES any type of rollercoaster or ride, but I still jump here and there with this game. The thing is, I laugh right after because even though I KNOW nothing can really hurt me, your instincts react before your brain processes. Just try to slowly acclimate yourself to realizing this and it suddenly changes from full scary to a more of anticipation / fun.
Remember.. it's just pixels in the end!

Relax, breathe, and keep in the back of your mind, that nothing bad will happen. The reaper is only in 1 spot right now, and with a seamoth, you'll be fine in the deep dark waters.

I've had the exact same reaction when I started playing the game. Underwater in games used to absolutely terrify me.

What got me over it was just gradual exploration and learning that most of the fear was only in my mind. Admittedly I've had plenty of "nope nope nope nope" moments when I would just quit the game.

Eventually I adjusted and now the only thing that still freaks me out are the Reapers.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll try and get over my fear. After all, like you guys said, it's just a game.
Love how nice and kind everyone is.

Another wonderful community i can be proud of being with.
