Atlantis similarities?
I sat down to watch Disney's Atlantis: The lost empire. I couldn't help but notice the similarities between their big ship and the cyclops, as well as the gun ships and the seamoth. I'm not saying they're exact matches but they look similar to me. Did anyone else notice this or am i just crazy?

Nah, it's just that I can't remember the last actual movie I sat and watched. Movies kinda suck these days. Not much original out there.

Maybe that's why we play games instead. :)

Well, for an old guy like me that is still the modern era.

Check this out, the top movies of 2001. Atlantis is in the top 30.

Top movies of 2001[www.imdb.com]

To me and in my opinion, what a load of garbage! I saw two movies from the top 30, Lord of the Rings and Blackhawk Down. Niether was an original story or concept.

your right in one sense that neither are origonal cause:
1: lord of the rings is based on a book
2: Blackhawk Down is a reenactment (what type of originality are you expecting from movies?)
Also have you seen iron giant?

Like The Matrix. The first one anyway.

I was very impressed with that movie. Very original.

Did not see Iron Giant.

Blackhawk Down was also based on a book by the same name.

Original: yes
Interesting characters and dialogue: God no

Also missing out on a fun, innocent movie.

Movies don't have to always be original to watch and have a good time viewing. There are thousands of great movies out there. Are they all original in concept? Hell no, but that doesn't make them unwatchable. The last totally original film I viewed, and own, was the great Bob Gale written and directed movie, Interstate 60. Highly recommend it.

Not seen it myself and can't be bothered googling to find pictures of these ships - which the OP could have done and included in their post but....

There's only so much room for variation with realistic looking (i.e. aquadynamic) sub-aquatic vehicles and the game shares a cartoony graphics style with Disney films.

Not going to get into an argument and drag this off topic but it's possible you regard Lord of the Rings as unoriginal because every other fantasy IP shamelessly rips it off.

The Cyclops shares no resemblence to the one in the movie. Both are very different in design. http://www.schoolofdisney.com/Stories/Atlantis/clipart/AtlantisScreen09.jpeg

The Seamoth Pod from the film is sort of similar, but very steampunk. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/5c/f8/de/5cf8ded6e2da0ab7fa603a307f20def6.jpg

yes very steampunk

I don't really see it, Think tis comes closer to it anyway http://www.telegraph.co.uk/inluxury/68654/1429274425285/sub-photojpg/ALTERNATES/w940-land/sub+photo.jpg

Besides designs to hold under extreme pressure are all based on the same spherical design because it works best so simularity is un-avoidable
xX_SPOOK_BOI_Xx Sep 16, 2015 @ 6:51pm
that looks so much like the seamoth

I would have to agree with you. Many subs in real life look very similar to each other because the design MUST be a certain way or it just won't work at depth.
Similarly, in games they will either be similar... or they won't be realistic at all and just call it "future tech" or some other scapegoat
