How big is the initial download?
Sorry if this is a dumb question I've got very limited Bandwidth per month (40gigs) and I was wondering how big the download is

I see it says requires 6gigs of harddrive space but I noticed a lot of game don't actually download the full size and the download is usually about half that just compressed.

Can anyone tell me how big the actual download is?

Thanks in adavanced

Oh jeez hopefully that's not the download size.
I was looking forward to an open world game that would give me some play time with a small file size.

This isn't a small game and you'd better doubly make sure your computer is up to spec on being able to handle it.

Intel Core i7-4790 Quad Core 3.6Ghz
16gigs of RAM
AMD Radeon R9 380

Should that be able to run it?

I downloaded the game like 2 days ago. It was 2.2 GB so it's pretty compact.

Thanks for the heads up that's not too bad I might just download it while I'm already over my limit.

2$ per extra gig so screw it 25$ for an open world sea world game

If you are playing in Experimental, like myself and many others, the game is 8 Gg on your HD.

The game is 8 GB on the HD via the normal branch as well. I think he was interested in the pure download size, which was 2.2 GB when I downloaded it 2 days ago. The installed game now is 8 GB.

Interesting that the download is so much smaller than the HD stored data.

I don't know if it's steam that compresses the files or the developers but I've had some games that tell me they'll be 11 - 15gigs and the actual download is only 5gigs but the folder still ends up being 11 - 15gigs

Don't forget to turnoff the automatic update thorax, that way you can update when it suits you.
Phaota Sep 13, 2015 @ 6:13pm
If you are in Experimental, it would be stupid to turn off automatic updates since that is the point of the branch.
Ancolius Sep 13, 2015 @ 6:20pm
True, but if you have a limet on what you can download a month you shouldn't waste it on things that are tested and might be removed lateron. just my two cents ;)

Updates in Experimental do not remove things, only add and fix if buggy.

decompression of subnautica's files takes much, much longer than normal. this leads me to believe that they've used an incredibly powerful form of compression.

for an interesting read, look up "42.zip".
