I'm still trying to get use to the hit detection though for many things: gathering materials, catching fauna, swiping at those crabs. I struggle to strike a stalker as it's chasing me and we're spinning around 360 until one of us gets hit. Seems like I have to aim higher in order for it to register as a hit; like the in-game reticle isn't centered vertically in the game engine.
I live almost solely on marble melons when in my base and have zero issues hitting them in planters. Crabs are no problems, and when I'm out I still have no issues hitting fish with my thermoblade for a quick snack either. Aim better.
i have a planter in one of my bases and there are only four of the marblemelons i'm actually able to reliably hit with a knife, no matter what angle i come from, and the ones in the middle i can't hit at all. "aim better" only applies when there's something the player can actually do. if i spend five minutes checking all of the possible angles and don't get a single hit, there is something wrong that isn't just a skill issue.
this used to be trivial before 2.0, and it's rather not now.
I don't know the reason but I don't think this was intentional. Maybe a side effect of a fix / backport.
As said, it remains possible to cut the marblemelon. It just is a bit more difficult than it used to be. You can jump and cut.
