Is it safe to put a Base at the Mountain Island?
I was hoping to make a second base near the Mountain Island but I have read there are levithans near it, I think along the east coast...can anyone tell me what the threats are around the Mountain?

I hope to build a reasonable sized base with basic functions and a moonpod and docking hollar for my Cyclops, but wanted to see what the threats are.

Also is there any way to defend a base if a Cyclops attacks or a bone shark? I didnt realize the bone sharks were so dangeorus until they destroyed my Seamoth at the Floating Island Wreck. those guys are nasty.

Any tips much appreciated. I have not explore or landed on the Mountain Island yet, so maybe there are shallows that might be good base locations. so just wanted to ask here for ideas.
thanks

Chris

Any base near the surface and close to the Mountain Island will be fine. There are a couple of Reapers on the east side near where the Mountains meet the Mushroom Forest and a bit north of that. However, the Reapers don't usually come above 200 meters and will leave you alone if you're near the surface. The north, west, and south parts of the island are completely safe from leviathans. That area does still have Warpers, though, so try not to build too close to one of their spawn points.

The Cyclops is impervious to the Bone Sharks, so you don't have to worry about those.

Also, the base isn't attacked, so you don't have to worry about defending it.

It could be damaged incidentally from attacks, either targeting the player or other creature, even a vehicle. But base buildings themselves can never be the target of an attack.

Nothing hostile can attack you while you're inside a base.

OK thanks guys very much for the replies. i am reassured. I actually bumped into tthe Mountain Island by acciident i was planing to make a trip to it once i get my Cyclops stocked fully to make a second base, MoonPod, and powersupplies, etc. I will look around for the Warpers. Havnet tangled with them yet but have seen them at a distance. Thanks again for the replies much appreciated and a big help. I am glad to know bases areent attacked on purpose. It is enough to just get thru the days in Survival mode watching food, water, energy, etc. and gathering supplies and finding the upgrades which are ALL Over the place...and take a LOt of finding.

I am trying to do this with minimal reference to online help or guides so i can truly experinece the game. Has been scary many time, but is quite rewarding when things work. Was lucky to find the bed in a abandoned base and sure is nice to be able to sleep thru the ngiht! also love the coffee machine!

Chris thanks agian.

I was more referring to you being outside your base and getting attacked, and the creature hitting your base while aiming for you.

Put it inside of the underwater entrance. Might be cool.

thanks again everyone for the helpful info and ideas. Much appreciated. I will start the expedition up to the Mountain area once i get a few more upgrades for my Cyclops, want to get the Shield generator and the one that refuels your Seamoth when docked. I hope to recharge the Cyclops itself using the docking collar and the new base will be intersting to see if the Auto Homing issue arises having two instances of the docking collar nstalled.

thanks again

Chris

The base doesn't have to be underwater. (Ok maybe it does for the moonpool.)
