Submarine Depth
I actually feel like I need to ask, Are you kidding? I was getting sick of descending in my Seamoth and hearing the voice of the computer telling me, "Maximum depth reached. Hull breach imminent."

Because of this I built the Cyclops. That is when I got the nasty shock of finding out that the Cyclops has a shallower max depth than the Seamoth. What!!!

That has to be an error. Personally I think the Cyclops should be able to go much deeper. You shouldn't get the, "Passing Safe Depth" message until you hit 250-300 metres at least. With the Seamoth you should be able to go as deep as the Cyclops but only if you put hull reinforcement upgrades in all 4 slots.

yep I can go deeper with my seamoth too. That is strange.

2. The submarine is too large and too big. You cannot navigate. I do not see the benefit of it.
I just use it to go to a place then farming the items with my seamoth and place the items into the submarine. It is nothing else than a mobile base or mobile locker.

There are several unimplemented upgrade modules which significantly increase the cyclops' dive depth by up to 1300m. The upgrade modules for the seamoth only extend it by up to 800m. So it looks like the cyclops is intended to go a lot deeper than the seamoth can. Possibly we'll have to rely on the exosuit down there.

A small vessel can potentially go farther down than a big vessel. It's physics.

That said, with the current upgrades they can both go pretty far down.
LostManAbroad Oct 23, 2015 @ 3:04am
Ottomic, that is completely untrue. You need to reinforce a smaller vessel less against the pressure but the size itself makes no difference. A large submarine and a small submarine at the same depth will have the same pressure exerted on them. Due to the larger surface area of the larger submarine it simply requires more reinforcement.
Ottomic Oct 23, 2015 @ 3:57am
Well, yeah, I mean you need to reinforce them less, a smaller submarine will have less surface, which means it will receive less pressure pounds overall. That's what I meant, not that something will automatically be hardier just by being smaller.

The Seamoth should actually go deeper than the Cyclops. Like Ottomic said, the less surface area, the less pressure per square pound. The submarine that explored the deepest depth on Earth could only fit 1-2 people.

AT their base versions, the Seamoth max depth is about 25m deeper than the Cyclops. I assumed this was so you could park the Cyclops at max depth and dock the seamoth without dipping below ITS safe depth and taking damage.

I think that the game should have a new type of mini sub that has no depth limet like the old seamoth, but does not have such a diverse upgrade range, the Exosuit might take this role. Personally I think that the subs should also have some kind of gear for taking stuff off the sea floor, as the player shouldn't be able to handle ebing extrmely deep. At least not without some kind of special suit or somthing.

Although I definatly think the cyclops needs a MAJOR upgrade, since power cells can be a pain to get and now the cyclops stops entirly if you run out of power.

It is likely we might sea something similar to the Seamoth's solar power upgrade in the future. I agree with you. Right now I'm having a hard time finding uses for the Cyclops.

"In overral" it's usless numbers. You need submarine for some purpouse. For base for example or for transport qoods, reconnaissance. If you use it for one ppl reconnaissance then small sub is better, if for instrument reconnaissance, or base, carrier, other purpouse that require the space - small one can't do it - not enought space.

I use it to transport goodies back to my built base. I load up the seamoth and take the sub to a designated area.... dive down with the Cyclops and run around getting goodies to bring back to my main base. I can stay longer in the area because I have tons of storage on the Cyclops.

I have a designated locker for power that I make ahead of time when running around with the Cyclops. It is full as I use the Cyclops to gather materials I need plus I can make things on the Cyclops if I need something right then and there.... thus the use of the Cyclops is to carry all the lootz back to your mega base.

In my and the wiki's apparently opinion, the reason that it collapses so quickly is because of the huge bubble of glass at the front. Yeah, it's enameled glass, that's designed to resist pressure, but it's made of a tooth. Literally it's made of teeth and glass. How effective can that be? The depth upgrades still don't really make sense, but ALIEN FUTURE GAME SCIENCE!

You may as well stop playing, then... It's a sci-fantasy game. It's going to be breaking with reality on a regular basis.

What? The game is still fun, the fact that it's not really realistic doesn't make it any less fun. How fun would it be if every time you got bit you would get swarmed by the biters? Or something. I don't know.
