Grab crab seems ready?
So I was brooooowsing entity gallery, and I came across something (I didn't bother to check the podium thing, but I assume it's the grabcrab.) and it's like a gigantic trilobite/horseshoe crab that leaps out of the tree leeches when you get close. Remember when they said tree leeches could be dangerous in the future? Boom. Again, i'm just making theories of which probably aren't correct, but maybe a unique enemy for mushroom forests?

I completely agree with you, it would be perfect for the Dunes biome. I'm almost tempted to start a petition thread to convince the devs to try again, but then again I have no idea what the plans for this thing were. If you could please tell me what it was supposed to do and why it was OP, I'd be grateful. Assuming you know, that is,

I may not be playing subnautica but i know a bunch of stuff that alot of other people don't even though they play subnautica. Today i was browsing through subnautica discussions for the first time when i saw this post it made me think grabcrab is ready but after i read it i understood what happen so after that i read your post and i got to ask you something. DO YOU EVEN SEE ITS SIZE? IT HAS THE SIZE OF A REAPER AND DEALS DAMAGE ENOUGH TO KILL A REAPER WITH ONLY 20 HITS. Believe me you don't want this. Yes it's an abandomed project. Yes it's too OP for the game. And don't forget if it was in the dunes biome you would have a VERY VERY big problem. Imagine the sandsharks, some biters and a reaper chasing you so you go down to dig the sand and make a little safe place for a sort of time and then THIS GIANT PIECE OF SH*T HITS YOU AND INSTA--KILLS YOU. Let's not forget people can use it to thier advantage.
Nope, I still want the Sandworm in some form. I just pictured a minefield sort of biome with smaller versions of these guys where you have to watch the seafloor for Sandworm burrows. And if the devs decided to return to this, that doesn't mean it would still be OP and the like. They have complete control over every little detail in the game- they could make the Sandworm a passive mob if they wanted. In short, saying it's OP means little as they could easily change how it works.

whether, not weather. As for the Sand Worm (improper name since it's not worm, but crab or lobster-like creature), it was a very early development beastie that, from what I was told months ago, was too OP for the game, so they decided to not continue its creation. IMO, if it were shrunk down, texturally updated and made to look better in the Unity 5 graphics (instead of Unity 4), then given some good A.I., I think it would fit in perfectly with the game. I can easily see it living in the Dunes biome. Also, here it is from the Entity Gallery:

Hmm, don't think that thing being too OP was ever a reason why we didn't add them to the game. It was just a simple quick prototype, using some model that was bought off of the Unity asset store, and never really worked into the game in any meaningful way. If added it would still need a full concept art pass, gameplay design pass, model/texture/animation, then all the programming to get it working. So, mostly just something that we never chose to pursue because we had so many other creatures to deal with.

And as far as that other concept image I made, of the crab thing in the cave, again that just never was picked to go any further then just a concept phase.
