but honestly you are better of just not playing the game since fear or no fear, doing that will completely ruin the experience.
maybe there is a way to decrease the fog intensity/distance, that might be a decent middle ground.
Why you picked this game again? You might ask for tips to mitigate or conquring thalasobia instead. A lot of people enjoyed exactly because of deep ocean simulation and spooky atmosphre.
Had a bug where this actually happened, you'd just get stuck at the bottom of an empty basin lol. Water environments kind of the point of game. If you really can't handle it, you might want to refund.
Could also try Below Zero. It's mediocre compared to original but it doesn't have the same feeling of deep water, levels are much more cavern like so doesn't give off a void like feeling and open areas are much more shallow.
