What are some "renewable" resources?
I know it goes without saying that almost every edible fish can be renewable, but what other resources can be renewed?

Does scrap metal respawn? What about Reefbacks? Can you farm the barnacles off thier backs for endless copper, titanium and maybe even silver?

Do salt deposits respawn?

What about Quartz?

I have just been trying to get an idea of how common some of the resources are so I don't accidentally strip all of them in an area and waste important ones on useless stuff. I know it's a survival game, so resources are expected to be premium, but I really want to be able to build massive bases during a survival playthrough. I also don't want to accidentally soft lock myself on something. lol :snguy:

Small fish re-spawn; all medium-sized fauna or larger do not.

Any harvested plants, including creepvine seeds or land plants/trees, do not respawn in the wild. They will respawn if you plant them, however.

Shale outcrops kicked up by Sea Treaders will re-spawn indefinitely.

Salt deposits don't re-spawn in the wild, but salt is infinite via the Water Filtration Machine.

Practically, there is no way you are going to strip the planet of so many resources that base building will be an issue. There is enough titanium in this game to create a base that wraps around the map several times over and then goes to the bottom of the void for good measure. The odds of getting accidentally soft-locked in this game due to resources is effectively zero.

From my experience, things like the minerals you mine by hand or using the Prawn drill arm are not renewable, although the scanner room will only show so many at a time so when you mine some, more may appear and it might look like they are spawning in, but I'm fairly certain it's just that they weren't visible before (on the scanner) and may be more difficult to get to or spot.

I don't think metal respawns, but don't forget you can get titanium from tech pieces you already have so scanning for those could be worth while.

I'd say Reefback minerals probably do respawn, though I can't verify that. Don't know about salt deposits or quartz. Things like the teeth seem to be infinite though there'll probably quickly come a time when you don't need any more of those. You can cut pieces off the big coral tubes for calcium if I remember correctly, those tubes never disappear, and plants generally do grow back after a time, e.g. the red coral and mushrooms.

From memory, you can 'unmake' structures and furniture etc to recover their component minerals so when it comes to base building I wouldn't worry too much about running out. Also there are some components you can farm indefinitely in outdoor beds such as mushrooms, kelp and blood vines.

If you're running out and can't find something just by looking, a scanner room is your friend.

The outcroppings that sea treader leviathans kick up are renewable. Can get infinite... What is it, lithium, gold and diamonds? Just bring the Cyclops over one of their paths, pop out with the Prawn or Seamoth, then pop out of it to harvest outcroppings, hop back in to top off air and move it, then go back to the Cyclops when your inventory's full. Empty it into the lockers there and go back out for another couple loads.

How massive does you want to build for your base? The resources in this game is so plentiful to the point that your game may lag due to building integrity calculation before you even spend half of the resources available in map

I've mined thousands of titanium and lead to made a base that sprawls around the big mushroom tree and a few of the ones around it with minerals almost exclusively mined from prawn drill deposits and i havent been everywhere yet

Do keep in mind by the way, that when you deconstruct a base component, you get all of the resources back. The only way to really 'waste' resources is to build loads of consumables, or maybe use up all the uranium running reactors for a year or so of real time or something along those lines.
