Any help with getting over my fear of Reaper Leviathans?
I've played Subnautica for about a whole 24 hours now and I want to enter the Aurora to get the stuff there out of the way and get the prawn suit. One slight problem, I am absolutely petrified of Reaper Leviathans and can't bring myself to confront them with a seamoth that I have spent my entire play time with. My only options that would help me over come my fears are using the cyclops, which is a pain to get with what I have so far, or get over my fear of them. Please, any suggestions to help me get over my fear will be greatly appreciated since after I get what I need from the Aurora, I'm fine for the entire game since I'm not at all bothered by the other leviathans or other terrifying monsters, thanks!

You can take a path to the Aurora that doesn't bring you into contact with any Reapers. Head to the middle part of the western side of the ship (the side that faces the starting lifepod, which is east from there). Navigate to about the middle and then hug the side of the Aurora heading north until you find an opening in the hull. You can enter without coming into the patrol paths of any Reapers.

There will be a Reaper just north of that hull opening that you can hear, but it can't enter the inner skeleton of the ship.

Go directly from the life pod to the aurora, then hug the hull to the front (keep the aurora to your right) you can sneak into the exploded front where the entrances are without confronting the reaper

Edit: lol admiral just beat me to it

If you pay attention, you can hear the Reaper before you can even see it, so you can avoid them. The sound it's very faint, but once you notice it, it's unmistakable.

Whatever you do, don't go directly behind the aurora or venture too far north of it. Here there be monsters.

As said if you slip into the Aurora the right way, you never actually need to go near any of them.

But regardless, to get over it, first make a backup seamoth. They're not very expensive. That'll ease your mind somewhat. Then make and equip a Seamoth Perimeter Defense Module and a Seamoth Sonar Module. With the sonar, you can see them a long way off. Then if one does go after you, run away. If it catches you, then trigger the perimeter defense *after* it grabs you. It'll let go and swim away.

Stasis rifle, you can find stasis rifle pieces quite easily in the underwater islands, it'll keep them frozen for awhile, and you can keep them frozen as long as you have batteries. (You can stab them to death if you want too, but it'll take a while (300 hits without thermoblade, 150 with), and reapers are the only leviathans which respawn (although killing them is really satisfying and can help your confidence)).

Better choice is to hug the side of the ship if you don't have the patience to find the fragments.

After hundreds of hours of gameplay, I still haven't gotten over my fear of reapers. Sometimes you just avoid them.

Just plain ol' exposure was what did it for me; learning where the Reaper Leviathans live and where they don't, watching them a lot to figure out their behavior, experimenting to see how close I could get to them without being noticed... and, weirdly enough, letting one bite me (I do not recommend this method on permadeath). Fighting them helps, too, once you've got the weapons for it. Once you start thinking of them as something you have to manage, like your food, water, and oxygen- once you have a plan for dealing with them should one sneak up on you- they get a lot less scary.

I've gotten over it rather easily, I think ghosts are much spookier. Reapers remind me of noodles.

LOL, "noodles" is what I nicknamed them while playing. Well, except the guy in the dunes with the attention span of a fruit fly. That's Mr. Ketchup.

Seemoths are very cheap and easy to build. When your seemoth is gone, build a new one :)

I was never truly fearful of Reapers, but my initial avoidance of them disappeared when I found out that they could reliably be killed with the stasis rifle + thermal knife pretty easily. Same with Ghost Leviathans for the most part. Killing them took a while, but it was always an option.

Leviathans would later shift from manageable annoyances to trivial threats when I mastered the ability to kill them with the habitat builder. Now, if I have just 2 pieces of titanium in my inventory, no leviathan worries me. I might even bait it to attack if I'm worried it might go after my Seamoth or harass me while I explore.

At this point, I'm actually more annoyed by Ampeels and Bonesharks. But regardless, "fear" can be allayed when you learn you have some control over the situation. And the ability to survive (and dominate) leviathans in this game is something you can control.

How is that possible? to kill a leviatan with the habitat builder?

It's more like a glitch, as two objects can't share the same space.

Well they also said if they can just get what they need from aurora they'll be fine for the rest of the game. So that was the alternative to facing their fears. Just pointing out you don't have to square off with the reaper to visit the aurora safely
