Data boxes missing
Not all of them, mind you, but I've been trying for hours to find the mk1 cyclops depth module and I'm pretty sure I've searched all three places. Lifepod 2 didn't have a box and I'm at the dunes wreck and there's nothing here either. Is my game bugged? Is there a command I could use to force respawn all the data boxes? It's kind of a crucial tech if I ever want to use my cyclops for anything substantial

Are you at the right dunes wreck? It should be in the largest one, west of the mushroom forest.

If you don't find it in the large Dunes wreck, it should definitely be at the wreck in the Grand Reef (I believe it's the northern wreck, just below where the Grand Reef meets the Kelp Forest).

I have experienced what you're describing before also, as well as some wrecks that are completely empty. I've always theorized that this has to do with the order in which the data box zones are loaded, but I'm not sure. Either way, that upgrade should definitely be in your game.

Yeah, I'm positive I don't have the tech. It's not registered in my pda at all, so I can be sure it's not me looking in the wrong place to fabricate it. I've been using coordinates to find the locations of the Dunes wreck and life pod 2, although I haven't played this save in some time and I might end up revisiting the one in the grand reef just to double check. Granted, I started this save way after the game's full release so I'm positive it's not an issue with an early access conflict

As a test, I just started a new save, made an O2 tank and a seaglide and swam straight to the grand reef wreck. The data box was there, and when you pick it up the tech does appear in your blueprint database, you don't need the cyclops or modification station unlocked to see it.

So... bugged game, I guess. That sucks. When did you create your file, I wonder? Anyway, this warrants a console command fix. Press F3 then F8 and uncheck "Disable Console", F3 and F8 again to close. Press enter and type "unlock cyclopshullmodule1" and you'll have the blueprint. Recheck "Disable Console" if you want.

On a tangential note, something wildly impractical and silly I've done on recent playthroughs is to visit every wreck before scanning anything or opening any data boxes, thus maximizing the titanium yield from extra fragments and boxes. The eastern mountains wreck is the most nerve-racking one, a reaper gets very close to that one.

I was playing around with the wrecks yesterday also. I noticed a few places like Lifepod 2 and several of the larger wrecks didn't have any data boxes when I visited them (or their chunk) later in the game, after having loaded some other area that had a blue print. Some of the later wrecks had literally no fragments or scannable items at all. The only things there were the pre-loaded PDAs and supply crates.

I also saw this for the first time. At the underwater islands wreck, down the hole that you need the propulsion gun to clear, there were two data boxes right next to each other. Have never seen anything like this before. In total, that wreck had 4 data boxes in this playthrough.

Yes, I also got both those boxes at that wreck when I explored them all before opening them. If anyone wants to try that, a seamoth with the free Mk1 depth module from the Aurora is sufficient to get to almost all of them. I don't like going to the eastern mountains wreck or the deepest grand reef wreck without a modification station or a prawn suit though.

Just to make sure I wasn't nuts, I loaded a different save and checked the underwater islands wreck. Only one data box that time like I remembered:

In the save file with the double boxes, I definitely went there sooner on in the game.

So by that logic I probably loaded in the data box I'm looking for and the game figured it didn't need to load in another. The last time I was at the grand reef on this save was to get prawn stuff, and that was before a huge hiatus of the game, so maybe past me never picked it up. I ended up forgoing the cyclops when I entered the late game area, so it's a bit of a lost cause now, but thanks for the help guys

The game should keep spawning the data boxes until you *open* one. Just because it made one with a tech won't stop it from making more. It could have something to do with your "huge hiatus" though, could have been a bug from what version you played on then or a bug in the way the current version handles older saves.

I visited the dunes wreck in a survival world and in a creative one. In the subnautica wiki it is listed that three data boxes should be here along with quite a few fragments. I can't find a single one.

"Up to" 3 data boxes can be there. However, there may be zero, which is what you will experience with the last wrecks in the game if you visit all of them.

The first post answered the question, I mark it as the answer. Databoxes have fixed position but if you already know the technology they won't be there.

Creative unlocks all the technologies, you won't find the databoxes.
