How do I kill the suicide fish?
To get cave sulfur without taking a bunch of damage.

Swim past it, it won't be able to turn around to chase after you.

Why kill something that is going to kill itself anyway?

Scan it, and you will find the answer.

My opinion, you shouldn't be trying to collect cave sulfur from them unless you have a SeaGlide, much easier to traverse around them and avoid any damage upon explosion, but yes, swimming past it or just breaking its fish ankles tends to work nicely when avoiding it.

Crashfish automatically explode about 10 seconds after locking on to its target.

Although they are very quick, they aren't exactly maneuverable. By simply turning yourself to either direction, odds are, you'll avoid the blast.

Trigger it and escape with a seaglide. Early on you wont outswim them without the seaglide and the best tactics is just to bait them and run till you hear the boom. Later on there are more options but i dont wanna spoil plus there is little use for cave sulfur anyway in the late game.

The cave sulfur is found in the flower anyway. So just let them self destruct and then return to loot their 'nest'.

Actually those fish turn around and chase you, it just don't turn around until after you have passed it, then it takes a second or two for it to turn around.

Most of the time, I find swimming past them isn't an option either, as there are usually more behind them.

When they spawn, I usually backup until they reach me, then swim forward, so I don't trigger the other fish. Then it blows up before he gets close enough to me, and I don't get close enough to the next nest to trigger it.

If try to swim past them all, you often don't trigger the next nest until you are past them, then they can catch up to you. At this point, look for a normal fish and hope you reach it before the exploder reaches you. Then it will kill the normal fish instead of you. You may still get some collateral damage, but much less.

Use seaglide to get far enough away after triggering. After you've collected the cave sulphur, knife the nest to stop another one spawning later.

Rev up those Ace Combat skills. Crash fish are the "incoming missile" of Subnautica. Don't swim directly away, you'll get whacked. Instead turn around and charge the fish head on. Juke to the side and it'll fly right past you.

Also, how many stabs does it take to kill a stalker fish? I must have stabbed one like 10 times and it didn't die. I figure when it releases it's yellow blood or whatever it is that counts as a hit I'm assuming. After a few hits it does try to run away, but it won't die.

It should be 15 hits with surv. knife and 8 with thermoblade. Might be even less with thermoblade cos it's dmg is heat not physical and it interacts a bit differently with things. Math says 8 tho.
Yes, when the greenish-yellow "blood" is shed that counts as a hit in most cases. One case I know that doesnt bleed like that is an ampeel, you jab it - nothing, but the dmg is there. After like 90 s of stabby stab stab it does go belly up.

When they charge at me, i used a knife to kill them before they explode

When a crashfish leaves its pod, have it get close to you to be in knife range. Killing a crashfish with a survival or thermal knife will make it explode to do no damage. It takes 2 hits with a survival knife or 1 hit with a thermal knife. Swim backwards in a straight line to make it easier. But its still the best option is to swim away with a seaglide.
