I believe it's considered a finished game. As in, no new content is planned to be added. This is one of those old-fashioned, pre-Live Service games where when it's finished, the devs move on to the next, new project instead of adding microtransactions for the next decade.

Use mods. There are good ones available for 2.0 and maybe the FCS mods finally get updated either. :D

I'm currently packed with a lot of mods and just started another hardcore run.
This time hopefully without Ryley becoming a casualty. oO

But 'Subnautica 2//3' (Boy, they have REALLY borked up their naming conventions!) is not an "update". It is a stand alone game, apparently using largely similar mechanics, in a new underwater setting.

UWE spokespeople and press releases and hiring announcements have indicated it is set in/on "a new world", but context is such that it is hard to tell if that actually means a different planet, or if it is a more casual use of the word "world". Best we can guess is...Probably on a new planet.

Since they are known to be shifting game engines for the new game, I think it is reasonable to expect that there may never be any backport of features to either of the older games.

Haven't been any meaningful updates to the beta in over a year. All current resources are focused on the next game. This game may get another update to fix known bugs, but no new content is being developed.

Do you sometimes get eels stuck in position as of they would be inside a jellyshroom, but they are actually just a lifeless texture without any collision?

I still get that issue from time to time...
