How long does this game take to beat?

I have a decent number of hours in this because I get really into it, then don't touch it for months. I then end up starting a fresh playthrough, atleast in part because I've forgotten where everything is... As a result I've never finished the game. Roughly how long does it take people to finish the story? I think the furthest I've got is to the lava science base.

iirc the lava biome is the home stretch, so you were relatively close to finishing it

Agreed, the lava science base is the beginning of the endgame. But this game is so open-ended, finishing the rest could take literally any amount of time, depending on what you want to do and how you go about doing it. You could conceivably finish the game within about 30 minutes if you went straight there.

if you got to the lava zone then you are almost done. when I replay takes about 20 hours but I am taking my time building a decent base. If you just want the story without crafting anything unnecessary could probably do it in 10 hours. speed runners are sub 1 hour.

Ah ok, thanks a lot for the responses. If you guys had told me there was much more to go I likely would've given up on this. I like the story, I just get a bit bored of collecting resources to get to deeper areas.

The good news is that there isn't a ton left at that point, yeah. There's definitely some more resource gathering, haha.

Or, you could have my luck, and have your Prawn Suit poof out of existence. Then you might have a whole lot more resource gathering. lol.

If you do like the story, I'd keep at it - you're very close.

I just beat it and it took me a day and 19 hours but I wasn't rushing and naturally cost myself quite a bit of time a few times through. Funny how you feel like you're so lost and by the end you got a good idea where everything is and even more so if you use beacons haha

I did it just minutes under 50 hours. It was without any guidance. I think I was somewhat slow. Once you are diving with max depth upgrades it just a matter of finding the last few places and crafting a few things. If you don't have a whole lot of crafting materials you can scrap one of your bases to build the rocket, that is what I did.
