The Hull Reinforcement Module(s) have NO EFFECT vs damage from creature attacks.
As the description of the HR Module clearly states, it halves the damage taken IN COLLISIONS!! Only collision damage.
That doesn't mean it isn't useful. For instance, you can make the Seamoth into a great little submarine ram, as long as you make sure to ram yourself into the other guy FIRST! And carry a Repair Tool. Great for chasing and killing bonesharks and crabsnakes.
Mechanically, creature attacks are treated as a different type of damage.
Collisions, with the ground, rocks, other creatures, are treated / calculated as "collision damage".
Creature attacks are all treated by the engine as "creature damage", often called " 'bite' damage"
Oh. The HR modules don't help with "depth damage" either.
.......the only negative side of this free fall experience.... when i was back in the shallows, the Seafloor didnt spawn in fast enough ..... i fell again..... through the map this time XD
In my defense, it was a few Years ago.
A couple other things about the HR modules:
1. In the Seamoth, the benefit is cumulative. So with 4 equipped, you won't take more 1 damage from any collision. This actually allows you to use the Seamoth for offensive purposes, and you can ram Bonesharks, Sandsharks, or Tiger Plants to death with minimal damage taken.
2. Since the Prawn does not suffer collision damage, the HR modules don't do anything for it. Don't waste the slot.
Bonesharks are deceptively fragile things. I've seen them die from accidental Seamoth rams that looked like a glancing hit at best. Even coming into contact with a moving Cyclops will typically end them. I'd almost feel bad if they didn't deserve it.
Sandsharks are a little trickier, but you can actually manage to ram them even when they're in the sand sometimes. Even if they look like just a little fin is sticking out, their hitbox extends above the body's model.
Any creature short of a Leviathan or Ampeel can be rammed to death in just a couple collisions. Even the damned crabsquids if they don't disable you quick enough.
Well said!
