Subnatuica mods work on a started game?

Hello. I am making my boyfriend playing subnautica for the first time without mods. But after watching him play I wanted to play it again myself. I would like to install some mode though. So my question is: if i download some mods can i make them work in a new game that i start and instead in his already started game no mods and more important i don't want his game to crash because i installed mods and the game didn't have them before

depends on which ones u r using but for the most part, most of them should be non new start friendly. the major exception to this i would say is probably the FCS Alterra Hub and more time capsules.

time capsules are placed and selected at the time a new game is started, so it wouldnt work in an already started game. hence why if u clear the cell cache files the capsules come back but are still the same ones that were generated at game start.

FCS Alterra Hub may or may not require a fresh game. because of the size of this mod and the huge impact it can have on playstyle it is recommended to start a fresh game with it. This mod is practically a DLC (currently the mod really only works in legacy mode, until we get the next update for it.
