you're not getting that back
Then you are going to have to avoid the Mountains (except for the Island) throughout the rest of the game.
Alternatively, you can try to learn to kill some leviathans. Carefully. By drawing them out and doing one at a time.
I recommend that you don't do anything in that area until you at least have a PDS on your Seamoth,

Nah, the cyclops is plenty tough. As long as you're not stupid about it, you can easily take it to the mountains/dunes/crash zone.
Because this only happened in ONE VERY SPECIFIC SPOT in the world and you're advised to never go there once.
I was responding to the comment immediately above mine as well as a previous post about not going to the mountains with it (Cyclops is great for that area, really).
Further, depending on what the 'friends' who came with were, depending on if the life pod was in one of the northern or southern spawn points they could very well have been describing the ghost leviathan in the north blood kelp area.
You didn't read my post it seems. It depends on what the 'friends' were, as it is not stated whether they were further ghost leviathans or other fauna like crabsquids which tend to make like very irritating when you're focusing on something larger. Can't counter-ram or activate the shielding with no power. Also ampeels, although they're usually not a threat on their own to the Cyclops.
Further, I've been chased by two adults at once in the Grand Reef. I was in a Seamoth and not very pleased.
As for the spawn rate, it's a lot faster than that. You'll have all three ghosts on you within a couple minutes in the void. Depending on where they spawn, the first two may hit you within a few seconds of each other. You'll also have a handy warning that you've entered the ecological dead zone and get to see how the sea floor drops away.
And I admit that I got confused and was speaking of the in-bounds dangers to the NE or the SS, not the NW. No Mountains in that quadrant.
If you saw more than one Ghost Leviathan, somewhere to the NW of the SS, then you WERE out into the Void.
Nope, ain't recovering that.
The Void Ancient Ghosts will keep respawning every 20 sec after you kill one, and the Cyclops & PRAWN will eventually sink to -8000m +.
Just swim home, carefully, probably best on the surface, and build new stuff.
Don't venture beyond the Crater massif edge, or it will happen again.
Ghost leviathan and 'friends'. Please try harder.
