Are there any new updates coming at all?
Or has the game fallen on the modding community to fill in the areas that aren't so complete? If so, I'd like to at least see the addition of steam workshop support.
(I mostly mean decorations such as furniture, rooms, and so on. Though more variety in fauna would be nice. It can get a little stale seeing the same boneshark for the 2000th time.)

You can see here that the last update to the experimental build of the game was on June 2023.

And as long as you don't see any movement here, it means they are not working on it.

What Obraxis said later in the same thread doesn't contradict it.

Why does it need updates it's a fully functional game. Not all small games will get updates forever.

Fully functional doesn't mean updates should stop. If that was the case, updates for Subnautica would have stopped in like 2017. For a long time I've felt like the game was never really complete; it feels a little empty in a lot of areas. Like the amount of decorations for bases, the amount of sealife, life on land, and so on.
I get there was a mass extinction and all, but Below Zero kinda shoots that story line in the foot. And it would be nice to have more life in the ocean.
No new content updates are coming. The game may eventually get another patch to fix the major, outstanding bugs, but no word if that's happening.
Thats very unfortunate. I hope that someday it changes, since Below Zero wasn't half as good as I hoped.
Subnautica plays in a scenario, where you crashland on an 2,5 x 2,5 km inactive underwater vulcano that is more than 1 Kilometer tall. Thats smaller than Phoenix Park in Dublin (yes, i saw the Country Flag in your Profile and guessed xD)
Around the Vulcano is literally nothing because most of the Planet is submerged, in a probably several kilometer deep Ocean. That there even exists Flora and Fauna in that setting can be considered lucky. Sparse life is better than no Life. On top of that is the Kharaa infection that kills most lifeforms pretty fast.
The Floating Island exists because of the Floaters, Enforcer Island exists because of Terraforming.
Take a look at actual Oceans.... most of it is sparse. I will not go as far as saying that the Subnautica ocean is "realistic" but it makes Sense for this Setting and the Size.
For a survival Game about Diving, thats acceptable.
If you want extras, i know that the modding-community thought of some really nice Mods.

I dont know the story of BZ yet and i will turn anyone into chopped Snacks for the Crawlers if they spoiler me :D

@Ignis Do you know whether there are any plans to release the latest experimental as stable, because if they do it will break a lot of mods?
No plan currently. But there isn't much in experimental compared to stable. The Unity Sprite Atlas, the new input system. That's basically it.

And it is that part that will break many mods
Really @Notoshy, isn't it a little late to complain about BZ spoilers? If you haven't gotten around to that yet, I question whether you really mean to!
How about an endless series of paid DLCs and really milk the life out of this old sea cow?
Let's follow the herd.

Yeah im a bit late to it i know^^ Was distracted by RL and other Problems.
But i was actually able to prevent most of the Spoilers even after all these Years. Beside the trailer and the shown details, the clips i acidentally saw never showed anything of importance. How i did that? i have no idea. Im working on a side-project and then i can finally finish the first game and launch the Second^^ (had to start a new Game)

I'm pretty sure its not a story spoiler, but for all i knew there was literally no life on the entire planet outside of the crater thanks to the mass extinction. Then BZ drops and theres a hell of a lot of life there too only like a year after the main game itself. Thats what i meant by shooting it in the foot.
The lack of diversity makes sense, yeah, but it still feels a little empty in some places. My biggest problem is the lack of decorations for bases. Im a person who likes decorating in games and will go to great lengths to waste resources on doing so.

Thats really sad. Thanks for responding though.
I think because of the word sandbox and because people love the game so much it should still be updated or at least Steam mod support.
