Creature sounds in the music....WHYYY???
The game really isn't that scary unless your around reapers...why the hell do we need to put big loud reverberating growling in the music when there's already plenty of creatures that can do that WITHOUT IT BEING FAKE! I WOULDN'T BE ANNOYED IF IT WEREN'T FOR THE FACT THAT A REAPER CAN LITERALLY BE HEARD FROM OVER HALF A CLICK AWAY YET THEY STILL FEEL THE NEED TO HAVE FAKE ROARING AND GROWLING IN THE MUSIC! Future devs....if you want to make something actually creepy...genuinely creepy that people have to actually be afraid of...don't use the ambient music to instill fear, use actual sounds of creatures that players have to actually be scared of...because all this does is distract people like myself from the actual horrors of where I was. [again the reverb as if it actually is trying to trick the player into thinking its real is just added annoyance when there are very real threats that do the exact same thing]

If that's how you feel, listen to the sparse reef music at the 1:18 mark.

Here's a link, or look it up.

.....I like it.................I think I really overreacted now tbh lol, it was lava castle that started playing when I entered the blood kelp area, not the trench, and having HEARD, no not seen but just heard a reaper in the distance, I genuinely thought that something else was there, but once I realized it was just the music it just felt so cheap having heard the real deal earlier without ambiance being the cause. Its REALLY GOOD music...just...tries way too hard to be scary.

Its really fun, I don't necessarily intend to "beat" it and instead just make cool stuff and have thalasaaphobia....its saying I didn't spell that right but wont correct it... and I still really enjoy it....the crash zone and the fear of unknowingly going into the void are honestly the only REALLY scary things....and the fear that a reaper might ambush you but generally you can hear them from really far.

It's just a parasitic ear-worm that roars occasionally between feedings.

Pretty much ALL the terror in the game comes from music and sound effects. The game's bark is worse than its bite. In my experience all of the creatures except for the Reaper and Sea Dragon sound scarier than they are.

That's why I subscribe to the idea that Subnautica can be used as a form of therapy for those that do suffer from Thalassophobia, play the game in sort bursts and that phobia should be less and less of an issue.

Oh its still an issue irl... then again therapy never worked on me :(

No way, Subnautica gave me a name and a form of how and why i hate sea and oceans.
A trip around the crash border back of the Aurora was the worst decision i ever had, plus night decided to come all of a sudden, think i never paniced that much in a videogame ever, no way i'm gonna do that again, and i'll die before i go diving for real or on a boat/cruise on open seas.
