Kelp forests are the best
I've thought a little about how the game changes with the Seamoth and I'm not sure it's all for the better. Swimming around the kelp forests, dodging stalkers among vertical terrain, refilling oxygen at purple corals, and never surfacing or leaving the environment is the most fun I had in all of Subnautica.

The deeper biomes are both filled with more dangers and less vertical, making them less exciting to explore, and they also tether you to the seamoth or an underwater base. The mushroom forests look cool but there's nothing among the mushroom trees for you to do except harvest the odd mushroom cap, everything else you want to find is at the bottom.

Yeah, a think a lot of the biomes need either more unique hostile creatures or more loot you can only get inside that biome.

Whats the point of the Koosh zone? Other than Blood Oil whats the point of the entire Blood Kelp zone? Other than fragments whats the point of the entire Grand Reef/Deep Grand Reef? A lot of the biomes only have 1-2 things that you want out of them and then there is no reason to ever go back.

As always, keep in mind it's all Early Access. Anything is apt to change, and I'm sure the devs have plans.

The following creatures, from what I can tell on Trello, are awaiting implementation:
Sea Treader, Warper, Lost River Bone Shark, Crab Squid, Lava Lizard, Lava Larva. So no need to worry!

I doubt you'd ask that about biomes in real life- once you've got wood, why would you need to go back into the forest? That aside, I can attempt to answer some of your questions to the best of my ability. The Blood Kelp biome will contain the entrance to the Lost River biome in the future, and it's possible Sea Treaders will produce fertilizer for crops in the Deep Grand Reef (don't take my word for it, just saying what I've heard and could very well be wrong). Koosh Zone... I've wondered the same thing myself, actually, but I'm just waiting to see what the devs do next.

I'm sure the devs can add more stuff to the existing biomes but just from sheer joy of exploration the kelp forest and also the shallows beat most areas in the game hands down not because of what's in them but because of how they are designed. They feel more compact and have more interesting scenery over shorter distances. The kelp forest has a ton of verticality yet manages to stay interesting at almost every depth.

Most of all, it's the sensation of being able to dive freely, where a lot of places I feel like I'm just driving my seamoth around, getting out for ten seconds, then driving someplace else.

So far, the kelp zone is by far my favorite too. I found a very cool, protected cave just inside the kelp forest next to safe shallows. I built my base inside this cave. You have to dive straight down to get into it, so nothing bothers me there. It looks amazingly cool at night, with the glow of kelp and the purple jellyfish hanging from the top of the cave. This cave is very close to an underwater volcano, which I didn't know when I chose this spot. It's actually part of the cave system connected to the crater. I love how I can hear the volcano erupting every few minutes while I'm inside my base.

While the devs haven't yet finished adding content, each biome at very least is eye-candy for a seabase. In my opinion, the biomes that are closest to completion are kelp forests, safe shallows, and jelly shroom caves (and perhaps the floating island). The rest haven't quite had their ecosystems finished.

Kelp has slowly become my favourite as well. Built my new base there.

My main base is becoming my kelp base too. Good balance of safety, resources, and access to biomes. Just finished the second moonpool for seamoth #2. It's nearly filled one multipurpose room with storage, and I've got a tower of 3 rooms for fish, maintenance supplies, and food.

btw, how did you turn off the GUI? That screenshot looks pretty awesome!
