Cargo Boxes?

I'm finding these in wrecks and I have no idea what to do with them. Do they contain anything and how do you open them?

I think they're just for show, at least for now. Would be nice if we could open them later on.

I've got a bunch strewn around my life pod area and don't want to pass up an opportunity if I just can't figure out how to open them.

There are a few you can get things out of, but mostly they are there for "atmosphere."

most of them contain fragments, like Seaglides, pre-pulsion cannon, stasis rifle, Mobile Vehicle bay, ect. but there a load that are just for looks.

Okay, so just going near them with hand or scanner will tell me if their atmosphere as I can't interact with them, but those that do contain can be interacted with?

Some of the crates are open on one end, and have a fragment inside. The ones that are fully enclosed can be picked up by the propusion cannon, but that's pretty much it.
