It's also a good idea to avoid dying in the first place. Med kits are free and if you keep your health topped off if should be very unusual for you to die to a predator. It's much easier to die because you ran out of oxygen, usually as a result of getting lost in a cave or large wreck.
The MVB you dropped might have been lying where you dropped it, though if you don't remember exactly where that was then I imagine it would be harder to find it than to just collect the materials for another one. At least that's what's supposed to happen, but there is also a good chance that it would clip through the floor and disappear forever.
The hovering items are the MVBs construction drones, waiting for a particular vehicle construction task. Make sure you have all the required materials for the vehicle with you.
MVB will only allow the Cyclops to be built if the area 50-70m out in front of the MVB has ~60+m of clear depth. It will tell you if you attempt the build in a "too shallow" location, and ask you to move the MVB, but save some time and just avoid it.
It stops being fun at that point.
It is the folks who kinda say, "I'm about to do / build <THIS>. Tell me everything about it before I even try." that sometimes make me manic.
And...OH MY LORD...If ONE more person posts "What's the best place for a base?", I may swear off the game for 3 months. (Better yet - I will just reply "Dunes".)
Outside my backdoor I've got young Australian magpies tapping the glass for unhealthy snacks all the time - when they should be foraging for delicious centipedes. I now regret ever getting them started on Iberico Ham.
