I lost my mobile vehicle bay
I crafted it and went to release it. I got the message to release and hit drop. I thought it was supposed to float but it went to the bottom. I picked it up and tried again. I was able to pick it up and drop again. I dropped it near the large coral tube near my pod. When I looked for it, I could not find it. While looking I died to a predator and so it reloaded. I am now missing all the crafting material for the bay. I thought when you reloaded, it went to your last save. I did intend to quit without saving. I don't understand this saving system. How could I have found my mobile vehicle bay?

Problem nearly solved. I restarted the game from the desktop rather than reloading and all materials were there, so I fabricated another one and assigned it ti a quick slot. Now I guess I just go to the surface of the water and use the quick slot and it should float.

A delightful comedy of errors!

I feel very lucky to be on my way again with all materials. I learned something about saving and reloading.

Yeah, and the MVB deployment catches most people out.

When you die the game respawns you at your last safe location, so the last habitat you were in or your lifepod, depending which you were in last before dying. You only keep the inventory you had when you died. Going back to the last save would usually be preferable assuming you save frequently, but I guess the devs didn't think people would do that and gave us the "auto-continue" system instead. You can get around this by making sure you save frequently and quitting without saving when something unfortunate happens. (Not necessarily you dying, you might lose a valuable piece of equipment or something like that. Then there's always a chance that there is some glitch in the game and you'll need to quit without saving to undo it.)

It's also a good idea to avoid dying in the first place. Med kits are free and if you keep your health topped off if should be very unusual for you to die to a predator. It's much easier to die because you ran out of oxygen, usually as a result of getting lost in a cave or large wreck.

The MVB you dropped might have been lying where you dropped it, though if you don't remember exactly where that was then I imagine it would be harder to find it than to just collect the materials for another one. At least that's what's supposed to happen, but there is also a good chance that it would clip through the floor and disappear forever.

Thanks for that info. I have never died to a predator, but this time I was immersed in trying to find the darn thing. I"m sure it wasn't there as I searched for quite a while.....and died.

Success, the MVB is released. But what is that hovering over it? Can I climb to it?
Bleep May 27, 2023 @ 2:25pm
the "thing" is a drone. it builds the vehicle. and no, you can't climb to it. but you can use it
Sputnik May 27, 2023 @ 2:25pm
Those are the vehicle construction drones. Have you tried climbing on it?
dreamrider May 27, 2023 @ 2:29pm
Yes, you can (and must) climb onto the MVB.

The hovering items are the MVBs construction drones, waiting for a particular vehicle construction task. Make sure you have all the required materials for the vehicle with you.

MVB will only allow the Cyclops to be built if the area 50-70m out in front of the MVB has ~60+m of clear depth. It will tell you if you attempt the build in a "too shallow" location, and ask you to move the MVB, but save some time and just avoid it.

I fear thimble is gonna miss out on the joys of learning from trial and error.

I crafted the seamoth with no problem. When it dropped into the sea and I couldn't find it right away, I got worried, but it was there. This will make deep exploring much easier

I've got no problem with "heavy hinting" and near-spoiler stuff appropriately masked ... if someone has clearly been trying to make the game work, it isn't "clicking" for them, and the frustration is mounting.

It stops being fun at that point.

It is the folks who kinda say, "I'm about to do / build <THIS>. Tell me everything about it before I even try." that sometimes make me manic.
And...OH MY LORD...If ONE more person posts "What's the best place for a base?", I may swear off the game for 3 months. (Better yet - I will just reply "Dunes".)

Outside my backdoor I've got young Australian magpies tapping the glass for unhealthy snacks all the time - when they should be foraging for delicious centipedes. I now regret ever getting them started on Iberico Ham.

Now you have a responsibility, as a conscientious uncle / overlord, to go down to the bait shop and get a nice jar of centipedes...and some long tweezers. :steamhappy:
