Mod Suggestions?
I'm thinking about re-playing the game, as I beat it long before the 1.0 and noticed a lot has changed since then.

The one thing however that always bugged me is the lack of reliable ways to deal with threats other than a knife or its upgraded versions. So if anyone is aware of any good mods for self defense, that'd be great. As it would be nice to have something like a real torpedo, harpoon launcher, or some type of gun or prawn weapon to use, as it would be really useful in the late game when the creatures are a real threat to you.

Mind you, I have checked nexus and I'm not all that happy with anything I have seen. So non-nexus recommendations are welcome. In fact, preferred since Nexus has proven to be a pretty anti-fun and anti-modder platform as of late. So I'd be happy to know of good Nexus alternatives.

Use alien rifle or tech pistol choose what you want.

There's also the seamoth and cyclops lasers

I have to ask though.... Doesn't killing the animals make the game pointless?

You could use New Biome Map but obviously it's a bit hard without it so I suggest that, "well for me":steamfacepalm:.

You could probably use it for killing "Leviathans".

Ehhh, the only thing that is a threat really is the Sea Dragon, and thats towards like trying to build a base down there, since the fire ball spray sucks. But there's really no reason to just float in one spot like you're having a picnic in the lava zone. Other than that, just avoid the creatures haha. I've beaten the game 8 times, and never once been grabbed by the reapers.

Wanna make things interesting? use Time Eternal mod to keep the game locked to midnight lighting (only locks visually, game clock still functions for timed events, plant / fauna growth, etc), run the game in filmic color in the settings, and don't use any vehicles for travel (Seaglide is fine). Maybe even set up ReShade to turn the brightness down even more, make it a bit more contrasty, and vibrant. Makes the entire surface of the world basically pitch black. I like to call it the 'tidally locked' playthrough.

If you insist on weaponry, I'd also grab the mods that add MORE leviathans, randomize their spawns, and give them respawning.

Not if the goal is to complete the story, that's like calling killing enemies instead of using stealth in a Metal Gear game pointless. It's more a matter of taste / preference.

I saw those mods, however I was kind of hoping someone would have made a weapon that is more modern instead of laser based.

Something that brings back the terraformer.

I think there is a mod for that in Nexus, it certainly was a fun tool.
They really shouldn't have removed it.
It was only an exploit if you already knew where to go / dig.

I think that the removal was more about what it did to weaken the stability of save files, more than the ability to exploit.

Dude just use it for killing them but it's fun I've used it and it's actually you don't wanna know I went through a rampage heck I've been grabbed by reapers about 56 times with my cyclops near the crash zone but the actual point is just use commands

Personally I'm waiting for the automation mod (Alterra hub mod suite) to be updated to 2.0 should be soon. It looks really hyped.

But current mods I'm running is map, better lights and craft/build from nearby containers.
