To switch to Survival mode, open the console (shift+enter) and type "survival" with no quotes. That will change game modes for that save slot.
also there isnt anything to explore in the void, as its name states there is nothing out there. the only thing that you can find is the bottom bottom of the map, but there wont be anything there.
honestly even with the masterpiece that subnautica is, it still has some bugs, and weird physics engine issues. so i dont trust the hardcore portion of the game. however, hardcore isnt required for any achievements, so thats why i play in survival instead.
Achievements are NOT disabled until a console command is USED. Then the save file is flagged and Achievements are disabled for any future use of that save file.
If you save copy your game slot folder to a different distinct name, BEFORE using any console commands, that copy will not be flagged and Achievements will still be possible in it. I would make sure that this reserved copy of your game is outside the Subnautica folder, as extra insurance.
However, unless Ignis advises otherwise, If you restore that copied game to the Saved Games folder later with the intention of resuming your hardcore game, I would delete the original, converted-to-Survival game slot folder first, or restore the resurrected hardcore version to a different game slot name, or both.
If your strategy is to give the hardcore copy a different slot folder name, rename it in some workspace OUTSIDE the game folder, then move it in. This is so that it is never again opened within the Subnautica folder under the same name as the game that may have been flagged to disable Achievements.
BTW. Even in the Legacy version, or at least in the pre-Livin' Large version, merely activating the console DID NOT disable Achievements. You had to actually USE one of the commands that triggered the Disable.
At least at one point, and I think right up to the version change, there were a few commands that were not considered "cheats" that did not trigger a Disable. But it didn't matter - because most commands DID disable, ... and it only lasted until you logged out of game and back in again.
