Now now, don't get ahead of yourself.
This is an interesting topic in game design:
Coding:
Game-play:
(Both these make 1st person a good choice for creating horror game tension, and I think work well creating Subnautica's thalassaphobia).
So it's partly a creative choice. So some AAA franchises still opt for first person view (e.g. Skyrim, Fallout, Faycry, Dsihonoured etc.) and some don't (Dark souls).
Technically, you do get several clothes upgrades, the radiation and then reinforced suits and the stillsuit that I'm sure someone uses. In Below Zero, you also get the latter two plus the cold weather one but let's admit it it's still all about the reinforced dive suit.
Still, personally I feel first person works better for survival and horror type games, and both definitely apply to Subnautica. Plus, saves having to animate Ryley's face for all sorts of actions and emotions, mostly terror.
(Skyrim lets you swap to 3rd person, but that makes it trickier to land arrows especially while sneaking. Don't lie, you all know you did this.)
