Where to find magnetite
To build stasis rifle and probably to build the diamond cutter, as well.
Thanks , damn only just found the island again, that takes a while exploring to find.

Your best bet is lost river, which is pretty deep, but it can be found in the underwater mountains areas, especially in caves. If you have a Prawn suit and can drill, it is much easier to find higher up.

Not progressed to the suit yet, will have to keep exploring i guess.

The Best Bet, especially for as early game as this player clearly is, is NOT the Lost River.

See this recent thread, or search the subject in the forum:

BTW, this kind of search is what a Scanner Room is FOR. You can fit all the components for one, plus a couple Solar Panels, into your Inventory, or panniers on the Seamoth. Then you can move it around to search various areas.

Jellyshroom Cave or mountains area (caves and thermal vents in the open - these vents tend to have a reaper leviathan nearby though)
There are a couple near the alien gun base (where you go to meet Sunbeam) underwater.

No it's not, when it comes to magnetite the Jellyshroom Cave and the mountains are going to be a much better option.

Don't need to worry about the reaper near the containment platform because the shale outcrops INSIDE the mountain itself can give you magnetite and other resources and there's plenty of those outcrops in those caves well enough for at least a trip or two while you're waiting for the Sunbeam.

Shale Outcrops do NOT yield magnetite. They yield Diamond, Cold, Lithium.

However, it would still be worthwhile to explore through the Mountains cave system. Lots of resources. IF you don't mind dodging the Reapers

Jellyshroom caves, one of the lifepods is next to the entrance

I had forgotten about the jellyshroom cave as I rarely visit it after one pass to scan everything, since I rarely build a base near it. I don't recall any oxygen sources in it but it does fall in the 100-300ish depth range so that probably doesn't matter. Watch out for crabsnakes though :D

You need to remember that cave because only that specific cave is where you'll find Magnetite deposits, you will not find any deposits anywhere else for this specific resource where as Copper, Gold, Titanium, etc can literally be found in just about every single biome.

@Cursed,
There are Magnetite deposits in all of:
Blood Kelp Zone
Inactive Lava Zone
Lava Castle
Lost River
-- Bone Fields
-- Ghost Forest
-- Tree Cove
Mountains Caves
Mountains
Sea Treader's Path

But as you can see from the list, NONE of the other gathering areas are accessible as early / safely / conveniently as Jellyshroom Cave, particularly the shelves and entrance areas.

If one is lucky, you can score a little bit on the underwater outer slopes of the Mountain Island.

But that does count as entering that biome, which is one of the potential triggers for raising Infection Level / Warper aggro.

I've NEVER came across Magnetite deposits in these areas, ever and the fandom page for where LARGE deposits of the stuff only lists those caves.
Doombringer Feb 18, 2023 @ 11:06pm
Magnetite is in all of those listed areas, but some of them only have a few loose pieces, and magnetite sort of blends in with a lot of walls, especially when it is dark.
Mountains Caves & vents have a ton, jellyshroom definitely has the most if you have a drill arm prawn suit.
